Happy New Year!

I love this jacket with all thine heart and all thy soul. Amen and Amen. 2009 is over. Onward and upward.

The Eve before the Eve...

Here is Complete Superficial Randomness before I have to get all deep and philosophical for the New year with resolutions and such.

Why didn't I know until this morning that a tribute album to my favorite band existed! Where have I been! I love Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. I feel like my "fan" card should be revoked!

I even named my dog after Frankie Beverly! I. Must. Own. This. CD!

A few weeks ago, I was in the mall (hate the mall by the way) and saw a dude wearing this cardigan. I saw him and did a double take. I never usually pay attention to men's clothing unless they are with me so trust me, the cardigan was that awesome. I SO wish I had my camera with me. I tracked him through the store to ask him where he got it. I immediately called my baby brother (all 6 ft 6000 inches of him) to tell him to buy this sweater for himself! HA HA (some sister I am!)
This is a super old pic but I'm pretty sure he doesn't know I blog so I'm safe. Please know that I have super high heels on. I really fit under his armpit (literally)I promise you, I would re-inact Janet Jackson's Pleasure Principle video from top to bottom wearing my painful leopard heels for any man (not my brother...ewww) who would wear this bad cardigan! Last I checked, they only had size small online. I know a few people who would rock this polo but nobody wears a small:(

Polo Wool Letterman Shawl Sweater (I'm a sucker for elbow patches)

Steve Madden B Sweet Handbag
Also in the mall, I saw this purse at the Steve Madden store and again I did a doubletake. It's perfection. You must see it in person...the color is delicious. I remember inspecting it, petting it... I might have even sniffed it because it was so beautiful. This quite possibly is the antecdote to my eternal lust for the LV Speedy 35. Quite possibly. I think I need a baby or something. I'm becoming too shallow for my good:)
American Apparel: High Waisted Jean looking Leggings (These must be popular because they aren't available....not that I would have the money to buy them if they were available. It doesn't hurt to "want" though)

Oh...is Christmas over???

New Years's Resolution: To not want things, I can't have or don't need. (Please see above references:)

This year was supposed to be dramatically different by now but who am I to make plans and think that anyone, much less God will follow them? 2009 wasn't all bad but there was alot of unnecessary nothings going on this year... I can only pray that something gives in 2010. Here's to hoping....

(I remember when I was in elementary school, I thought by 2000, we would all be living Jetson's style. I remember thinking that we would be riding spaceships to work. In reality, I just listen to Kanye West's Spaceships on the way to work every morning:)

That is all. Happy New Year!

Catching Up...

Hopefully, everyone celebrated the Birth of Jesus in style:)

Here is an outfit that I've remixed ALOT over the last week. I wore this top as a dress a few days before Christmas and the very next day I had to layer it with tights/boots/cardigan/scarf and a coat! That's Texas weather for ya'.I am really loving these basic Calvin Klein heels.
I tied an old scarf from H & M to the handle of my vintage bag to spice it up. I tried to get a close up of the graphics of the top/dress...basically images of people from Woodstock apparently enjoying themselves a little too much. I searched for one black face in the crowd but alas, me "wearing" the shirt will just have to count:) LOL!

Apparently, a deep conversation with a 9 year old about a Snuggie being a gimmick got me this Snuggie for Christmas. It's from one of my favorite 9 year olds in the world and I must admit...I LOVE IT! LOL. Granted, I still say it's just a robe worn backwards but I must admit that it keeps me warm. I'm wearing it as I type this post.

I am going to have to research these Snuggie people and figure out how they brainwashed the whole country! From the Snuggie to a little piece of happiness in a BLUE BOX (thank you Santa) to Scrabble Playing Cards...I had a blessed Christmas.

Happy New Year just in case I don't post for a few days:)

WAIT...One more thing! I met up with a GFS follower! Benita, a follower in pharmacy school in Austin, Texas contacted me about places to vintage shop in Houston. I offered to meet her because let's face it....I thought only my family gets bored enough to read my banter (and by read, I mean look at the pictures only...BUSTED!)

We decide to meet and of course I catch a cold from hell. I wasn't well enough to shop with her but I did show her the ropes! Even the people who worked AT the store looked at me like I was crazy! I was totally having a Rachel Zoe Moment:) Benita and her tres chic friends came to check out a few of my secret spots and I snapped a pic of Benita as proof (Isn't she adorable)! Bold

One of her friends, Melanie, is a blogger too, so this ultimately turned into my FIRST Blogger Meet up!

**Don't be fooled by my big smile...as I waited for the ladies to meet me, I was dozing off in the car as some remnants of NyQuil decided to take effect. Right after that picture was taken, I went back into my "coma". Ladies, the next time you come into town...I promise to be ALERT! From what I heard though...they got along fine without me and found some cool items!**

Fade to Black

Here are a few epiphanies I've had as of late:

1. Apparently there is such a thing as a Money Tree but it doesn't seem to grow in my yard. The streets are flooded with Christmas shoppers. I want a money tree too:(

2. The American Apparel store is fabulous! Why have I been so reluctant to look past all the leotards and Dance fever gear to appreciate their great fitting shirts? Oh wait, I remember...their PRICES are a bit much for a simple T shirt! But I still like it.

3. There is such a thing as too much Christmas Music!
4. Any Jackson 5 Holiday music is an exception to #3.
5. Christmas stresses me out but I still love it. I'm all about that Baby Jesus!

The below pic is basically what I will look like for the next two weeks. It's just too easy to wear all black sometimes. I thrifted this military jacket months ago for three bucks. The turtle neck shirt/dress is from American Apparel too. I wore it as a dress to a holiday party...Don't scratch your heads...it was cute:)
I know I will never own these lovelies (click here) so I am pretty excited about finding these affordable versions by Calvin Klein. Love them!Calvin Klein Carley Pumps
P.S.- I am delirious. Must. Get. More. Sleep.

What's In My Bag?

Supposedly one can tell alot about a person by what's in their purse.
Here goes....What conclusions can you draw about me from "What's In My Bag?"

It's the usual stuff: Phone, scarf, MAC Lip Glass, Trail mix (gift from coworker)...bla bla bla

Let me atleast explain why I have my baby picture in my purse! It's not normal for me to carry baby pictures of myself around. I was cleaning out my desk at work and threw it in my bag. I used the picture at the beginning of the school year to help my students do a "getting to know you project". I just decided to take the pic home today. Go figure.
(Side note: You can tell I was into dresses even back then. I am pretty sure this was one of my favorite dresses. Check my bangs. I was serious.)
Here is a shot of some thrifting trinkets. Vintage Alligator Bag (I'm obsessed with "doctor style" bags.) Those Aldo shoes were a whole 2 bucks...hmm mmmm.

You know...maybe I should keep my baby picture in my purse. You know how you run into people who will whip out pictures of their kids. I should totally do the same in return to those very people. LOL. The conversation might go something like this.

Picture Carrier: Oh my God, I haven't seen you in such a long time.
Me: I know! It's been forever!
Picture Carrier: What have you been up to?
Me: The same old, same old. Working, breathing, praying...living.
Picture Carrier: Let me show you pictures of my kids!
Me: Oh wait. I don't have any kids but let me show you MY baby pictures!
Picture Person: **blank stare**
Me: What? You don't want to see my baby pictures? You are forcing me to look at your baby...what's the problem here?
Picture Person: *puts pictures or cell phone with pictures back in their purse"
Me: Okay. Bye. Hit me on Facebook!
Picture Person: *blank stare*
Me: *laughing uncontrollably.
*I wouldn't really do that. I was just on a roll and couldn't stop. I like baby pictures actually*

12 Days til Christmas...

T Shirt/Riding Leggings: Zara's
Tuxedo Jacket: Thrifted

It's been a while. I was waiting for a holiday party to roll around to show what I decided to wear. It was pretty basic. My intention was to wear a sequin jacket that I thrfited but I just couldn't get that look together. I kind of felt like I was an alternate dancer on Solid Gold. All I was missing was an Olivia Newton John headband to look like that Asian lady with the long hair to her ankles on Soul Train. So, I decided to wear a Tuxedo jacket instead.

Of course, I pulled out the Leopard Heels! I probably should have layered a longer tank top underneath to avoid the "hoochie" look but it was a holiday party with some teachers...I decided a little bit of "hooch" on my off day was okay. (My dog Frankie Beverly was trying to get in the shot)

I am so in love with this t-shirt. Yes, it is none other than Grace Jones. The ORIGINAL "Lil Kim"! I'm not into Grace Jones even a little bit but you gotta love this picture of her. I have this in both black and white, I simply can't get enough of it. I've also decided that I love Zara's stores since we finally have one here in town. It's the closest to H & M we will get in Texas. I do think their sizing system is generally not for humans. I do believe that their target consumers are those with eating disorders but every now and then they will throw a thick girl a bone! So be it, if it's a Grace Jones T-shirt and some riding pants:)

**If you've never heard of Grace Jones, Olivia Newton John, Soul Train or Solid Gold...it's okay. That just means that you are younger than me...just look at the pictures and smile**

I Don't Wanna Grow Up!

It snowed in Texas today! Trust me, it's a big deal down here in these parts. They shut down schools for really what was just snow flurries to you northerners...but it was enough to make me play in the snow!I wore this today for work. This whole outfit is practically thrifted. I thrifted this Ralph Lauren Blazer for 3 bucks and the Red Riding Boots were about 7 bucks.
For some reason, my students LOVED this Crested Blazer. I had a little boy run me down in the hall to ask me if it was Polo. He was shocked to hear that I got it from the thrift store! See...I do inspire the kids:)I've worn this sweater from Nordstrom's every winter for the past four years to the point that I've stretched out the sleeves. I wish there was a way to have it tightened again. It is so warm and chic! It's kind of a chic SNUGGIE!
I got so excited about the snow (cough, cough...sleet) that I decided to show you what I wore yesterday. I actually wore the wrap with a black dress yesterday but you get the point.

I've been in quite the mood lately but the snow frenzy was just enough to make me smile!

*Please excuse the cheesy poses...I was having fun!
