Taking my own Oath of Office

In these dismal economic times, shopping for pleasure has landed in the frivulous department when prioritizing life.

With that said, I must take the pledge President Obama extended to us all and become more personally responsible...he said something like that or close to it:)

At any rate, I am taking that pledge personally and admit that I need to get some things straight financially. So, to fulfill my desire to look at beautiful clothes, I decided to look no further than my own closet.

If you get the urge to buy something that you have no business buying, follow my lead and shop in your own closet. You will be amazed what fabulous things you may have pushed to the dark corners of your closet. This is especially true with shoes, because if you are like me...you keep your shoes in a hermetically sealed room with temperatures not exceeding 76 degrees.

Okay, that's pushing it...but I do go to Big Lots and buy clear shoe containers for most of my shoes. The problem is I keep my shoes on the top shelf of my closet to make room for nonsense on the floor. Above eye-level shelving makes it easy to forget what great shoes you may have found on sale.

I am dragging this out, aren't I? The point is I just rediscovered some fabulous shoes in my closet and decided to share. Most come from Marshall's because I am a believer in their shoe department. I am a living witness that they have the same shoes that are in department stores for alot less.

So enjoy my shoe eye candy. This is not by far even a fraction of my shoe collection but these are my favorites at this very moment. Notice, the same shoe in different colors. I am trying to kick that habit:) Consider it kicked!

I also included pics of a few finds I stumbled upon at the H&M in Philly...gosh I love H & M! Come to Texas please!

If you feel so inclined...go shopping in your own closet! What great treasures are lurking under your bed or in a downstairs closet?!?...better yet, go shopping in your friend's closet! See what they have, that they are willing to part with:)

P.S....Don't hate on the blue suede fringe shoes by Calvin Klein...I can't count the number of ways I would rock those babies! My yellow dress, or maybe a blazer and sknny jeans or a purple skirt and wife beater and blazer! OH the possiblities!

I WITNESSED HISTORY IN THIS!!

I just got back from DC to witness President Barack Obama be sworn in. I am pretty sure everyone is on overload with Obama coverage so I won't take that route. To be quite honest, I got sick while in Philly/DC because of the single digit weather over the weekend. It would be my luck to visit Philly on literally one of their coldest days of the year. It was too much for my Texas immune system to take.

So, because I am uber tired from traveling and running on fumes from all the inaugural hub-bub...I will just say it was an experience that will be etched in my memory forever. I am so proud to be an American and an African American on top of that.

I will say this little tidbit: I believe that Barack Obama has raised the bar for Black men. This moment in time should inspire every black man to be on their game and stop all the trivial bs that stunts our family units, relationships and communities. We now have a visual of what a real Black man is capable of. It's time out for trying to buy rims , having multiple women to prove your manhood, or/and being an absentee father. Unless you are driving THE BEAST like Barack, I don't want to hear another word about DUBS or 22's or whatever those rims are.

I digress...but you get my point. The purpose of this post is just to admit that I failed miserably at being fly while in DC. Truth be told, that cold air was kicking my butt. By the time, I got off the plane, I realized that being cute and warm are not synonmous. So I regretfully post a pic of my winter look while braving the bitter cold for Barack. I am ashamed to be quite honest! LOL. I had 2 pairs of gloves, 2 sweaters, a thermal shirt, tights, jeans, 2 scarves and a turtleneck from hell.

Oh and those cute boots from mom in the previous post...yeah, I had 2 pairs of socks and my toes still were burning.....but it was ALL WORTH IT!!!

...I'm going to need to sleep now. That's ashame. Barack and Michelle went to ten inaugural balls and still managed to get up and go to church the next day...me...not so much.

God knows my heart though! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Hilarious...

Even more hilarious...okay...a little corny but I am corny:)

Crisis Averted

I am one week from making the trip to the East Coast to witness Obama be sworn into office. I am a Texan where cold weather is theoretically a thing of the past. With that said, it's needless to say that I don't own boots. I have cute boots but not real boots.

I have been on the hunt for boots for my Philly/Washington D.C trip so I can be warm and cute at the same time. You can see for yourself on earlier posts that I have been looking for coats & boots for a minute. The truth is I have no money to try spulrging on coats and boots for just a single weekend because trust me I won't need them in Texas. If you want to know why I am broke, read this post.

So, long story short, I am fiddling around in my closet and came across some boots my Mommy gave me a few years ago. I never, ever wore them. Quite honestly, I saw they were a size 9 and wondered to myself why mom didn't know my shoe size was an 8-8 1/2 but didn't question her. If I had complained, then I wouldn't have gotten the checker/chess set the next Christmas or the Yoga mat this Christmas. (I know not to bite the hand that feeds me:)

At any rate, so all week I have been stalking after Christmas online sales trying to find some cute, cheap riding boots and a coat for the trip but not wanting to dish out the money. Well, I pulled out the boots and decided to try them on and guess what... I LOVE THEM!!! They fit perfectly over my thick calves and were big enough to throw some big socks and stuff my skinny jeans inside them!! WHAT WAS I THINKING? WHERE HAVE I BEEN? They are perfect, perfect, perfect. They are black and come high enough and are flat which were the requirement.

Mother does know best! She knew that the size 9 would fit because of socks and here I am not rocking the boots all this tme!! Thank you Mother! I will be rocking these babies tough in Philly:)

...as far as the coat, I have one from a few years ago that I got from H & M but in my head, I thought it wasn't thick enough. So, I thought instead of buying one, I would borrow from my homie who is born and bred in BWOOKLYN! (yes BWOOKLYN, not BROOKLYN). Well she trots over my house with what looks like jackets to me but swears that they ward off zero below weather! At any rate, she had a cute little coat that is just perfect for me. Thus, no money needs to be spent on this trip!

All there is for me to do is be in the place next week. I can't wait! You won't hear from me until after the inauguration but I will try my best to get pics of Philly and DC flavor if I see it:)
