Simplicity

This is what happens when one is tired and just wants to look like they atleast attempted to pull together simple look. I wore this to dinner last night. I got the shirt from Target because my school allows us to wear college tee's on certain days to promote college awareness for our students. I bought this three sizes too big to give it a loose/slouchy look. I threw on some jewelry and heels and out the door I went.

(Target Shirt/Skirt, Aldo Shoes, F21 Elephant Necklace, JCP necklace)

P.S...If you are in a funk and you wanna get out of it, google Cee-lo Green's newest song, I can't type the name of it because then I'll have to make an appointment with a priest to repent but it's worth it if you find it...by the way I'm not Catholic so that should let you know it's pretty naughty if I'm going to confessional for even typing the title of the song. Everytime I hear the song, I blush...giggle...and dance all at the same time.  If you know what the song is...don't judge me. God has his work cut out with me...I'm his personal project:)

And my dog Frankie Beverly wanted to show you his scarf swag:)

Dress Code

(Thrifted Silk Dress/Sam Edelman Wedges/Target Belt/ Necklace by Fashionnette-work.blogspot.com)
Yes, I've worn this dress on this blog before. But not with this necklace, or these shoes or with my hair back. So in my head this counts as being worthy for a post.

I think I got this dress for like 2 bucks when I first caught the thrifting bug. I've been pulling out clothes from the back of the closet to the front lately.

I'm at a new job and supposedly the dress code is "conservative." Like literally...conservative. I don't know how to handle that concept so I just set my own standards for what conservative means. Apparently according to this outfit, conservative means wedges, a purple shirt dress and a huge necklace.

I got a few looks but that's pretty normal for me so I just kept on stepping. I've always been one to break a rule or two, it's too much like right not to.

What's your employer's dress code? Do you follow it?

70's Sitcom

I can't figure out if I look more like Mrs. Roper from Three's Company or Wulona from Good Times in this dress (technically it may be a robe that I thrifted for $1.50). Both are my style icons so I guess it doesn't matter! LOL!

These aren't the best shots. I was exhausted today and still had to run errands after work. I felt guilty about not posting lately so I just pulled over and snapped a few pics. I literally snapped a few pics and got back in the car. I didn't even bother checking to see if I was in the pictures!  I wish I would have cared enough to adjust my dress so my "junk" doesn't look so monstrous but I decided that you would understand. You'll just have to take my word for it that the dress was bunching in the back or you can believe that I swallowed a trough of Golden Oreos. Either way, I pictured you saying "oh girl, it's okay!"

I have been exhausted every single day after work! All I think about is climbing into bed as soon as I get home. I remember when I was younger, my mom would come in from work and she would immediately say that she needed atleast 30 minutes of quiet time before we pounced on her. I never understood it. I didn't. I would think "Why won't she just drive me to the mall or take me here or there?"
(Sam Edeleman Wedges/Thrifted Robe/Dress?/Target Belt)

Now, I get it momma. I get it. You were tired. You had 5 kids and you worked. I
get it. My dad used to come in and say the same thing. I get it now. I get it. YOU WERE BOTH TIRED! I officially apologize for thinking you were the SUCKIEST parents in the world! LOL! You weren't. You were just plain exhausted!

I know because now I'm tired and all I am responsible for is a dog...who doesn't bother to bark by the way.

Just in case you were wondering...this dress is hot as hell. Who invented polyester? I need to have a conversation with that brainiac!

My Intentions Were Pure

(I can't wait to wear this dress as an open jacket over some jeans or jeggings)

My intentions were good. I promise. I got dressed in this little frock (thrifted for 2 bucks)and set out for church. Somehow, I ended up at a restaraunt eating pancakes, a hashbrown casserole and bacon. What can I say, God knows my heart WANTED to go to church. Doesn't that count for something? It has to. Somebody woke up drunk this morning. I woke up and got dressed for Jesus. I just didn't quite make it. Atleast I got dressed...right? Right.

Thrifted Belt and Dress
Charles David Clutch
Aldo Shoes
Guilt for not making it to church: Me
Does it count if I told you that the pancakes were the best pancakes ever?

Also, I found this silk dress/jacket/ in the nightgown/robe section of the thrift store. The lesson is...look everywhere for hidden gems while thrfting.

Sneakers, Jeans and P. Diddy

Can you believe it!?! I'm rocking sneakers AND jeans! I never do that! It's very rare but it was necessary. I had to go to work today (on a Saturday) to put the finishing touches on my classroom. School starts Monday and I had a lot to do to get ready for the 6th graders!

I wasn't even going to post these pics for two reasons. The picture quality SUCKS and I'm not wearing anything spectacular. But, I decided that I'm pretty transparent with you guys and why should I post pictures like I chase butterflies all day in heels? I don't. I pay bills and watch bad tv and eat cereal for dinner. I don't have to wear heels to do all of that. I will say that I felt most unlike myself by wearing jeans. I hate wearing jeans. It may have something to do with the thickness in the hips or the fact that they are just plain HOT! Wearing jeans in Texas heat is not my idea of comfort but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
(I tried to get a close up of my scarf swag...epic FAIL)

And since I'm in the sharing mood, you should know that I dance really provocatively to this song.  It makes me happy. I watch a lot of reality tv and I notice that models and celebrities have music playing in the background to help them "make love to the camera"during photoshoots.  Yeah...this is that song for me. Enjoy!

Back to School

I've been uninspired lately. It's hot and I'm ready for fall. The good news is that starting next week I have to start wearing real clothes because teaching sixth graders demands it (not really). Therefore, I am sure I will get back in the picture taking groove soon.

In the meantime, I can share that I have a theme for my classroom. I am decorating it like a college dormitory with leopard print accents (bulletin boards, rugs, lamps, etc.) I am using thrifted and donated college t-shirts as decoration by stuffing them with pillows.

(This is a just a trial of my t-shirt pillow DIY. I'm going to pin the sleeves later. I'm also on the look out for a leopard or zebra rug. I want to go "overkill" with the animal prints in my classroom.)

There is no such thing as getting money to decorate the classroom in Texas so I'm doing what I can:) I even thought about bringing my leopard print shoes to put them on a bookshelf as decoration but that might be going a little too far. Plus, I'd probably slap a kid silly if they accidentally tried on my shoe. The headlines would read "Teacher Goes Wild Over Leopard Shoes in Class." Not a good look.

As I emptied boxes for my classroom...I came across these two illustrations some of my kids did for me last year. Apparently, I'm a chunky, cleavage showing, afro puff wearing teacher according to Picture 1.
...and a sexy teacher vixen according to picture 2. I'll take Picture 2 please! I love that they both gave me a purse and heels in both pictures! They apparently pay attention to me after all:)

I promise to do an outfit post soon...when I wear something  worthy of photographing of course:) In the mean time, I'm dying to rock this leopard and polka dot look.

Thrifted dress: Goodwill
Skirt: Target
White Leopard Shoes: White House/Black Market (or whatever it's called)
Other Leopard Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Thrifted Belt

P.S...if you work at a college and want to donate to my classroom decor...please get at me. I'm trying to find all things with college logos on them from all over the country...tshirts, flags, sweatshirts, blankets, etc. And if you happen to have Animal print rugs, curtains, pillows that you want to donate..I'll take that too!

Cold Front...Please?

I am so looking forward to the Fall! But, I live in Texas where heat is pretty much year round. The thermostat read 107 degrees in my car today...it was only 7, 8, 9 okay...10am! To be honest, I really am just looking forward to wearing this coatdress and closed toe shoes again. All I need is one good constant breeze for me to bust it out. That's it...just a hint of a breeze and I'm going straight Tyra Banks in it! Right now though, all I can do is sit on the edge of my bed and stare at it and think of all the places I can go in it.
Here is my list of those places thus far...

1. To work
2. Church
3. To the lottery office where I will turn in my winning lottery ticket and then ultimately drop off the face of the earth.
4...still thinking about #3

Like I said...I can't wait for Fall:)

GFS Series: She's A Friend In My Head

Don't act like you don't do it? You go to your favorite blogger's site everyday to see if there is a new post or if you have missed an update. You get to know them and start hating them for either stealing your style from your head or being able to pull off something you never could. You get to the point where you go out shopping and think _______ of ________ 's blog would so wear this!

Today I want to share with you Kyla from Blue Collar Catwalk. You will love her. She is the girl next door but with better legs than most. She wears stuff that you wouldn't think to put together but when she does, you slap yourself for not doing it first.  Somehow, she became a friend in my head and then via email. We both agreed that meeting is a necessity one day!  So, keep reading so she can become a friend in your head too:)  You know by now that I'm a little different, so I ask the questions that you really want to ask. I'm kinda like Wendy Williams in that way...except I'm shorter and a little quiter:)

1. What do you like most about your own style? (Don’t be modest!)

I like that it feels like me. The older I get, the fewer concessions I make for my style. That means it's comfy, fits properly and I feel good wearing it. I especially love the days when my outfit feels like a direct expression of what's going on in my mind. Seamless days like those can be few and far between, so I cherish them when they come around. Ultimately though, it's my style, less and less influence by of-the-moment trends and more and more influenced by me.

2. Fill in the blank: A woman of style should always hold her head high.

3. Name a current trend you wish would go away?

I don't really wish anything away, I just choose not to subscribe to everything out there. One thing I could do without is the acid wash denim trying to make a comeback. Been there. Done that.

4. What makes you give a person the "side eye" in terms of style pet peeves?

Uggs + leggings + over-sized sweatshirts. I'd like to think I'm pretty open to others' style philosophies, as I'd like people to be open to mine, but come on, at least try!

5. What style rule do you constantly break?

I think most style rules that I break have to do with my height more than anything else. Like skinny jeans on a short, curvy girl or not wearing super high heels with long pants. Rules are meant to be broken though. If I look at an outfit in the mirror and it flows together and just feels right, then I'm going to wear it. Rules be damned.

6. Name a character from a movie that you would love to play based on the wardrobe alone. (You can substititue a movie for a reality show...no judgement:)

Seriously, give me a hard one. Carrie Bradshaw, no if's, and's or but's about it. SATC can probably be credited for my voracious style appetite.

7. What's the best song to play while getting dressed to go out with the girls or a date?

Oh, dear. I don't usually listen to music while I'm getting dressed. Lame, I know, but our stereo is downstairs. I do, however, tend to rock out in the car on the way there. For a long time, Justin Timberlake was our (and my our, I mean my husband's) choice of music on the way to our favorite bar.

8. You have only five dollars in your hand. Do you save it? Buy a fashion magazine? Buy a specialized coffee?

Ooh, that's a toughie. How about this: I buy a special coffee, save the the change and then go to the library and read their fashion magazines!

9. Painful but pretty heels or comfy Crocs?

Okay, that's just not fair. I've made a pretty big deal about not being able to wear heels anymore. I've even sold all of mine. However, no way, no how is anyone getting a pair of Crocs on me! Is barefoot an option?

Yes, Kyla, whenever Crocs are involved...barefeet are acceptable. I just wanted to see how far you would take that whole "no heels" thing.  Oh, one thing I forgot to mention...KYLA does NOT believe in paying full price for clothes. My GIRL! Thank you so much Kyla! DIMPLE GIRL POWER!!

The next GFS Series: She's a Friend in My Head...I have a treat:)

P.S...this is what I wore to say hi to the Lord on Sunday...I'm too lazy to do a separate post:)

A Day in the Life of a Thrifted Blouse

By now you know something always happens to me, right? Today was no different.

Thrifted Blouse, Elephant Necklace from F21, Steve Madden Sandals, Target skirt, Leather bag from Philly years ago)

I thrifted this top earlier this year but never wore it. For some reason, I pulled it out last night and just had to wear it. I got excited because I figured out how to dress it up and down.

I run errands, visit my nieces and nephews and even manage to snap some pics at the elementary school I attended a jillion years ago.

I spotted a cute little church and thought I would attempt taking pics to use for a banner for this blog. You know God's Favorite...the church...right. So, I changed into a pair of spare heels I had in the back seat and snapped a few pics. (You too have spare shoes in your car, so don't you dare JUDGE!)

I quickly realized that...

a.) I was still rocking a bandaid from my fall a few weeks ago. (Don't act like you don't remember)
b.) The  pictures were too dark.
c.) My fro was shrinking before my eyes because of the humidity and therefore starting to 'lean'.
d.) The lawn needed a little tlc thus messing up my picture chi'!
e.) Maybe I shouldn't be taking pictures in front of a church that's not my own. (Isn't that in the bible somewhere...NOT!)

So I abort the mission and decide that I NEEDED a grape slushy from Sonic!
I go out of my way to get the slushy and I quite enjoyed it...apparently too much.
I'm driving and slurping...slurping and driving. The slushy is sooo good that I lose my mind and start shaking the cup to the beat of Usher's OMG song. I mean I'm shaking and humming and slurping..completely oblivious to the fact that I'm wearing not only a light colored blouse...but a SILK one at that!

I freak out!  I had plans for this top! I call Juanette from Fashionnette-Work and she researches  googles how to remove grape stains from silk. She quite clearly tells me to get White vinegar and spot clean it by hand, then let it HANG DRY. I run home and do it. I notice that the stain has gotten lighter. I hang it for about 10 minutes and decided that I wanted to wear it again for the rest of the day. I throw it in the dryer because I have places to be and people to see.
And.... IT SHRANK! AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!

The only thing that made it all okay was when the UPS guy rang my doorbell and delivered a FABTASTIC clutch purse courtesy of Marion Renee of Wearable Art!!

I can't tell you how happy this clutch makes me! I literally shoved my wallet (empty wallet), my keys and camera in it!  I don't know how Marion knew but it is even my favorite color of all time!!! I LOVE Burnt Orange! LOVE IT!

Marion hand crafts all of her purses and bags and I will just have to believe that this one was made just for me! I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT! You will be seeing alot of this bag because I'm pretty obsessive when I like something and I usually it run into the ground.

I couldn't wait to rock it so I styled it up really quick and paired it with my leopard shoes! CAN WE SAY PERFECT TOGETHER!

I put the now midget blouse back on, changed some accessories and bam...off I went to Hooters to get some wings to go and watch this week's episodes of Project Runway and the Rachel Zoe Project! I. Die.

Thank you Marion for the BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED CLUTCH!!!

Frosted Flames

Ask me what I did today

Forget it...I'll just tell you.

Ate a huge bowl of Honeynut Chex Cereal.
Baked cupcakes.
Caused a small fire because a cupcake fell to the bottom of the oven.
Managed to salvage some cupcakes.

...That is all...

P.S...I almost didn't post these pics. There's nothing spectacular going on in them. Then I realized that I was becoming a blog snob. You know, getting dressed up with nowhere to go...not that I'm judging because I'm known to do that from time to time but this wasn't the case. It's so hot here, the least fussy ensemble usually gets worn these days. So, there you have it. I threw this on and if you really want to know the truth...I wore this twice this weekend! SSSSHHHHH!!!!!

This is my confession.
That is REALLY all:)
