Stolen Goods

Aldo Shoes, Gap (remember I dyed it last summer) skirt

This is what I call my stolen goods outfit. I swiped the trench a few weeks ago from a certain ten year old who doesn't appreciate the value of a good trench jacket.

I may have or may not have stolen the shirt out of a certain somebody's closet as well. It wouldn't be the first time. It won't be the last. The trick to is to wait until he leaves for work to avoid the whole "No, man that's my good shirt" speech. I timed it perfectly.

Whatever. It served a purpose today.

Polyester, Sugar and Church...OH MY!

Is there an outfit that you wear that personifies who you are as a person? I'm thinking this is that outfit for me. I felt very much ME while wearing this to church and to the movies.

I think it's the skirt. Who says you can't have a little drama in your everyday life. The train on this trumpet shaped skirt does it for me. It makes me feel like I am really going somewhere which in most cases...I am not.

I do have to share one secret...this skirt is HOT AS HELL! It's vintage which means polyester is involved. At random points of the day, I caught myself hiking the skirt up to my knees to give my legs some air! Thank goodness I sat in the back of the church!

Again, I ask...how is it that Polyester became the premier fabric of the 70's!?! How did my mom do it? I have to space my polyester days out or my "sugar" will start to run high. (I don't know what "sugar" has to do with polyester but just go with it.)

Thrifted Men's Burberry Shirt
Belt: gift

P.S...I just High fived myself for using the word "sugar" in this post. BWAHAA!

Houston Blogger Meetup

So who co-hosts a Houston blogger meetup and brings a camera that doesn't work? Me. yeah. Me. GRRR!

We met at City Centre's Yard House for hours of chatting and laughs and impromptu photo taking. More than that...it was empowering. People all had genuine interests in one another's talents and there were so many brains to pick!

K.D.  (with the big smile in the middle) and I decided to host a simple, low key gathering for those in the Houston area. I loved that it was small and intimate which gave everyone time to really share their expertise about everything from babies (not me), stalkers (yes, I kinda have one) and sitting on talents like sewing and not selling the goods (*cough...Raven and Tee).

Kathlene doesn't have a blog but is an avid blog reader and secretly desires to start her own! What are you waiting for!?! She also walked up with a gift...for me!!!?? I was beyond shocked! It was the style book by Lauren Conrad! I literally screamed! She was a delight!

(I'm wearing a vintage top, Zara skirt, Aldo earrings/shoes)

Tee of ManeCoarse was the first person to arrive and I think there may have been a squeal or twenty between us when we finally met. Then she told me she drove two hours to be there. WHAT!?! WHAT!?!? I literally kept saying "You drove for the meetup?!? Really!?" I can't tell you how honored I was to hear that! P.S...she made that camo skirt she is rocking and she doesn't sell her clothes!! WHY Tee!?! Why? I can be your business pimp manager. Think about it.

The ladies chatting.
K.D., the cohost is new to the Houston area.  She has a hair blog and was ever so proactive in finding a location for the meetup! How is it that she is new to Houston but introduced me to a new spot to hang out? #getoutofthehousereiko

The Hairgurl is pregant but oddly she was the first at the table to mention alcohol. I think I know we where can find her a few days after giving birth!  Tamara of Natural Hair Rules (on the end) is ridiculously knowledgeable about all things business. She has a great idea of possibly having a "workshop" for the next Houston blogger meet up. I'll keep you posted!

Jody always leaves the sweetest comments on my blog and she came out to share in all of the chatting. She has a mobile bronzing business and also has years of experience with photo styling/staging for corporate chains. Her passion is education about healthy skin and her skin was proof in the pudding. (Why is that a saying at all?)

This one right here. I literally met her last year through my blog. I call her the Dream Weaver. This girl is not shy about networking and has the best ideas ever. She runs Mocha Mommies which is a social networking magnet for all things "mommy hood" and beyond. She also is my task manager when I need things to happen!

(In my heels I towered over Raven so I needed to balance out the picture:)

I also met Raven at the Texas Style Council Conference in Austin a few weeks ago. She is a DIY chick and she makes the cutest clutches. I have threatened her safety if she doesn't get cards to capatilize on her talents!

A few other fabulous women stopped by but of course my camera flatlined and I was mooching other people's cameras by then! Thank you Kennetta from Austin and Stephanie for stopping by! I didn't get a good pick of High Heel Junkie but her site is a must. Just talking to her for five minutes taught me alot.

I literally walked away from this meetup completely inspired. I don't know why we didn't do this sooner! I have a feeling that this will be the first of many to come!

GFS in New Orleans: Bye Bye N'awlins

This is what I wore my last morning in New Orleans and the 6 hour ride back home. I found this silk-what I assume to be an Indian garment but probably is a pajama gown- at the thrift shop. I heart it so. It's perfectly comfortable and an alterative to jeans and t shirt.

Tunic/sash/scarf: Thrift Shop
American Apparel leggings/clutch
Pour La Victoire Sandals

On our way out, we stopped by the Camellia Grille for breakfast.

I take breakfast seriously. I can eat breakfast any time of the day. This quite possibly could be the best breakfast I've ever eaten...in my life.

Bye New Orleans!

GFS in New Orleans: WWJD

I bet you think by now that I just pick up and go to New Orleans and Austin and parts of the country whenever I feel like it. Not so Grasshopper:)

I was in New Orleans for a friend's wedding. I wore this ensemble to the wedding. I had a conversation with Juanette and I told her how I wanted to "J. Crew" my look.

( I got this long sash from Goodwill. It's nice & long and wraps around my body a couple of times)

I am really obsessed with the style director guru responsible for the wonders of J. Crew.
Juanette and I now have a saying when we want to J. Crew our look...WWJD!

WWJD SHOULD stand for What Would Jesus Do.
Again, you are wrong grasshopper.
It stands for What Would JENNA (Lyons) Do?!?

(Brian the photographer for Kendi Everyday told me that night time photos aren't the best...and I agree...yet I keep trying. Fail.)
I decided that this thrifted mermaid style skirt should be accompanied with a Target Tank and J. Crew "like" jewelry. Juanette loaned me her necklace (she sells awesome jewelry) and bag.

I keep waiting for her to call me and say just keep the bag. I'm still waiting...but I'm not giving up.

I have a final New Orleans post coming up and then I get to share the photos from The Houston Blogger Meet UP...which was all kinds of AWESOME!

GFS in New Orleans: Santa Fe Chic

Can you believe I thrifted this skirt? It was actually a two piece and I got it for the top. I was really digging the ethnic print of it all. Then for some reason unknown to me, I decided to try on the skirt and slide it up!

VOILA! It's a dress! A dress I love the most!  The print has a Santa Fe vibe to it, don't you think?

I threw on my wedges and a belt and walked the streets of New Orleans. New Orleans is a blogger's dream for beautiful backdrops for pictures. I couldn't get enough of the brick buildings and random spottings of grafitti.

Thrifted skirt worn as dress
Sam Edelman Wedges
Random Belt
AA Clutch bag
Aldo Earrings

Thanks to The Minister of Style's suggestion we made it to Mother's Cafe where the line was crazy long! I felt just like a tourist taking pics of people while they were working!

GFS in New Orleans: Color Block Me

I decided to do some major color blocking one of my nights in New Orleans. I wanted to steer clear of "all black everything." It's amazing how much my style has changed over the years...a large part due to blogging.

It has allowed me to try new things and step out of my once "Banana Republic only" box!

I know you are tired of me wearing my Blue Suede PLV heels but I just love them so! They are so comfy and perfect for any occasion.

They serve me well whether I'm in church or crawling on New Orleans streets after hours...which would eventually lead me right back to church if I'm not careful:)

Target Shirt
Zara Skirt
Pour La Victoire Heels
Clutch/bracelet borrowed from Juanette

HAS BLOGGING CHANGED YOUR STYLE??

Next New Orleans post coming in a few days...

And don't forget about the Houston Blogger Meet up this Saturday! March 26...are you coming?

GFS in New Orleans: The Beginning

I was in New Orleans this weekend. I haven't been there since before Katrina (hurricane). I was curious to see if the "vibe" of New Orleans was still there. I'd been there 4 times before the hurricane so I felt like I had enough prior knowledge for a fair comparison.

(Target Tank/Belt, Aldo Wedges, Thrifted pleated sheer skirt, AA leather clutch)

It's only a 6 hour drive from Houston, so it left a little time to poke around the streets.

After a few  hours in the city, I could  sense a different vibe there....not a bad vibe...just a different one.

The essence of New Orleans was still there in the food and the attractions but it seems the people have changed. You know what...it's just coming to me...TOURISTY.

That's what it is! There was more of a tourist vibe to it than I remember.

It was a different type of unique though. I have my theories on the change of the atmosphere but the heart of New Orleans was still detectable. For alot of Texans, New Orleans is home away from home so I certainly need to go back more often!
(Above photos by

My ultimate goal whenever I'm in New Orleans is to try all the authentic cajun food  possible without going into a food induced coma. This trip was no different.

We made it to Port of Call based on the recommendation of Ro. The first thing we noticed was that fries aren't even offered on the menu. You get a side of a huge baked potato or nothing at all. I took the baked potato.  (If you follow me on twitter then you saw a pic of it already:) It was the pefect spot to eat and take in the locals:)

(They look like they don't have a care in the world:)
