GFS Diva Style Advice: Part "Finally!"

I haven't done a GFS Diva Style post in a while...well because no one has asked me. Cathy from The Minister of Style blog contacted me to confess a cardinal sin. She had a kimono hanging in her closet not being used to its potential! What the What!?!

Cathy's Kimono Collection
So Cathy,  the Minister of Style...by the way wouldn't you go to church more often if your minister had a little style in the pulpit although it would be a distraction because I would sit there thinking that I need those shoes or that dress...I digress...  asked for ideas on how to rock the kimono. Nothing revolutionary here but here goes!

1. Think outside of the box...wear it outside of the house. Why waste all of that fabulousness sitting around the house? Not that I'm judging but a kimono is instantly chic. Somebody should see it...even it is that pimply faced kid sacking  your groceries at the supermarket!

2. Play with the length of it. If you thrifted a kimono, there is no harm in altering the hem line. Depending on your height, a shorter length might be ideal. Throwing on a contrasting belt can also make all the difference in the world.  I had this purple one altered because there were stains at the bottom so I just had it cut. I have quite the collection of kimonos now, all thrifted of course.
3. Wear it is a jacket/cover up. Using it as a lightweight jacket/cover up is always an option. Find a solid sheath (or anything semi fitted), grab some accessories, throw on some heels...and step honey...step like you are going somewhere important!

So here are the rules Cathy. You take my pointers and run like the wind! My only request is that you have to send me a pic(s) of you rocking the kimono so I can sleep at night:) I will post the update in a new post!

Let me stress that I am really not one for rules when it comes to style...just know what flatters you and makes you feel good...most of all, whatever you do...pay close attention to fit. Whether it's a vintage find or from a shi-shi-fu-fu store...pay attention to how your clothes hang on you!

Email me if you have a question to go in the next edition of GFS Style Advice!
If no other reason...do it to keep me busy...I'm getting bored!

GFS Diva Style Advice: High Waist Pants (Results)

At the request of my friend in New Jersey, who also happens to be a follower of GFS, I will do a weekly GFS Diva Style Advice post (click here).
Well, Karla found some high waist pants in the back of her closet recently and wanted to know how should she wear them...if at all. I suggested that she should find ways to jazz up the pants by wearing a print top/loosely tuck the shirt and rocking some heels. Karla's assignment was to shop in her own closet to find options to update her high waist pants.

Karla gets an A A+ for not only following my advice but accessorizing with suspenders and actually sending pictures of the updated look. Basically, it's obvious that she is that kid in class who was the overachiever! I wish all of my students did their homework! Here she is rocking the high waist pants and I must say that I  she did a good job!

I take complete only partial credit for Karla's look. She looks hot, doesn't she? I totally see her throwing on a fitted cropped jacket and going out with the hubby for dinner! Thank you Karla for the idea and for doing your homework!

If you would like to be featuerd in the next GFS Diva Style Advice post, send an email to godsfavoriteshoes@yahoo.com with your question.
You must also promise to:
1. Send a picture of the item in question (if you have it)
2. Promise to not go out and by something new but shop in your existing closet.
3. Send me pics showing me the "results"

So what do you think? Are you digging Karla's "after" pictures!?!

...In completely random news, I have made the executive decision that Winter is over. Spring is officially here according to me. I banish wool clothes and coats unless they are Spring colored trenches. I am ready to wear yellows and purples and such!

I SAID IT. SO SHALL IT BE.

GFS Diva Style Advice...The Inaugural Edition

From one of my paid  loyal followers Karla...

Reiko, this Diva needs fashion advice. I demand that you add a new feature to your blog. I need you to answer fashion questions from your loyal subjects.  I found some high-waisted pants slacks in the back of my closet. Are we still still doing the high-waisted thing?
Can you puhleez devote one post a week to answering questions? I will even be so kind to submit photos.
One of my followers, friends  "follower friends"  in Jersey suggested I do a  feature for those who have style questions.  So, thanks to Karla (that's her in the above pics), here is my first ever "GFS Diva Style Advice" Series!

On with it...High Waisted pants...I think that they still are fashionable...but it's all in how you wear it. I think the key is to jazz it up or down without looking like you stepped off the Jefferson Starship:) I have no idea what size Karla wears but I am betting that she wears size  "evil" because this chick has popped out a baby and has a flat stomach!

So here are a few of MY ideas...

*Try finding a floral/printed blouse to add a little "umph"*
One of my blog obsessions is Vintage Valley where Alyce rocks the best vintage style ever. She was kind enough to grant me permission to use her photos of  her rocking some High Waist pants to death...she totally  looks like a model, doesn't she?

All in all, I hate to give "rules". It's all about your style, what works for you may not work for me....that doesn't mean you shouldn't rock your own style! Play with the Not So Obvious ways to rock old clothes! I hope this helps...and Karla, your next assignment is to send me pics of you rocking the pants for real!

I would like to say that I am not an expert, far from it...I like what I like. That's it. That's the extent of my expertise. With that said, if LL Cool J and Miley Cyrus can have fashion lines...I can have a Style Advice feature on my blog!  If you would like to send me "style questions" to be in the next edition of GFS Diva Style Advice...shoot me an email with pics. If nothing else, it'll keep me busy.

GFS Diva Style Advice Rule: Whatever you do, shop in your closet...or your friend's closet when you are taking my advice! We are in a recession...atleast I am!

oh...Don't you love it when your friend tells you about a sale going on? Well, Shop it Me does just that! All you have to do is subscribe and tell them what name brands you have your eye on...and you will get daily updates on sales! That's better than your friend telling you about a sale AFTER she has already cleared out the shoe department!
