I wore this outfit to work and had no less than 5 teachers (co-workers) do double takes. I think the polka dot tights did it. My audacity to wear fashionable tights in a sea of crocs and khaki's and sweaters with apples on them apparently ignited immediate haterism...and I loved every minute of it.
"Almost always" (you get the point), I can see a little cartoon bubble rise above said "haters" heads saying "Who does she think she is?"
And "almost always" I picture myself popping that bubble when I look over my shoulder just in time to make eye contact.
I usually whisper "Hi, Hater" to them in hopes that they can't read lips, then I do the HATER WAVE (ie...the Miss America Wave).

This top was actually a 70's floor length dress. The dress is 100% polyester so the likelihood of me having a heatstroke was inevitable if I wore it before the fall season. The dress unaltered was a little too Wulona from Good Times for me so I decided to nip and tuck the length.
I got it last year at a vintage shop and bought it strictly because of the nipped in waist detail and the sleeves. I waited a whole year for the temperature to drop to pull it out.. I think it looks 1000% better as a top than a dress. The tights were a last minute addition and judging by the many eyerolls from adults...the look was a hit!
By the way, I have become a one woman traveling papparazi team. Now, as I drive from here to there, I am always trying to spot new locations to "shoot". These photos were taken in front of a newly built home. It looked vacant to me so I went for it.
I liked the wooden garage doors, so I pulled over, hopped out of the car, and took quick pics and then vroom vroomed down the street. It's kind of a thrill, to see if I can get a good shot before someone shines a flashlight in my face. I have no life. This constitutes as fun these days. It's hard being your own photographer.
Do you have any haters on your job? You know, the ones that refuse to acknowledge your fabulousity?
In other news, I can't wait for this year to end. I'm over it already.

Ohhh....fashion question...I am going to a mixer tomorrow night at some bar thingy...what should I wear. I haven't been out in ages...
**That should be a question mark after I asked that question...
I'm not doing a good job at being anonymous am I?
the tights are so cute! for some reason anyone that dares to be different draws haters...keep being you:)
I love your hater wave... you are awesome. You are right, if you enjoy your style then don't worry about other people. They maybe giving you hostile glances but what the heck... the important thing is you feel good and you know you look good.

Sweater with apples on them...
Your bringing me back to my elementary days. I would have loved to have a teacher as hip as you when I was a youngster.
Dare to be different in the sea of crocs... lol I work for an engineering firm, I once was told I should tone it down a bit. Whatever.. like fabulousness can be toned down.
Love the look, awesome.
Love your tights!
And your aunt's Chanel treasures - amazing - lucky you!!!
Oh and when I went to Aldo they had them in Bone as well - a lovely creamy nude shade. I must go back for them.

Excellent job on that top!! and great tights :) Keep standin up to those haters!!!
Fabulous look mixing prints and adding funky hosiery is the move!! So Patricia Fields! Loving it!!
My school is full of haters. Ours are more the jealous haters who have been stuck in a rutt for years but instead of getting out of it by doing something proactive they sit around hating those that enjoy their work by continually taking on different roles & responsibilities. I'm sure if I looked half as stunning as you do they'd hate me for my fashion as well!! I can't wait for next year when I can have my own hidey hole away from them and just emerge when the coast is clear *L* (USUALLY 1 minute after the home bell as you see the back of their cars leaving the school.... that's when all the dedicated teachers come have a coffee before doing class prep!) Sorry for taking over for my own rant.
Did I say how much I love your skirt/tunic & tights? Well I do!!
I don't know how anyone could hate on that outfit! That top is just to DIE for, and I LOVE the pattern mixing you have going on.
I ain't mad at ya! Love the look and the post!
I would think they would all love you for brightening up the place!
Visiting from SITS. Just give 'em the good ole' hater wave. LOVE IT! :)
Popping in from SITS!
I love haters! They are my motivators! I love the redesign of the top. The tights just made it pop! Keep doing you. I love it!
oooh looks awesome with the tights!
i love your top best of all! brilliant idea to chop it off
lol!! i am really enjoying your blog! you are so witty.
love those black and white tights- how cute.
as for haters at my workplace...none, because i'm the sole employee/employer....such is the career of an artist. although- would it count if i felt a little disdain for myself sometimes? probably that would mean i'm schizo, not a hater, which is a whole other issue, no doubt. ;)
I love your mixed patterns. The polka dots are fabulous indeed!
Fortunately, I work in a pretty easy-going workplace. However, I do get comments like "You know that you don't have to dress up, right?" when I don't see myself as being particularly dressy. To respond to that, I'm deliberately trying to "dress down" when I wear my "work clothes" while still feeling like I'm showing my personal style.
Good! Haters are ridiculous, usually a big part of their hating is jealousy since they don't have the courage to break their boring wardrobe rules. I feel sorry for them.
"Immediate haterism" = best quote I've heard all day.
Oooooooooooooooooooh! I LOVE it. LOVEEEEE it!
Haters be damned. What do they know?
I get it! Wave like the Queen! Happy SITS day!
Hi -- great, great outfit! I wish I had the hutzpah! Haters? Oh yes! I blow kisses. SITS-day greetings from Italy.
As if the crocs and apple sweaters don't deserve a few eye rolls?! Good for you for standing up for the rights of fashionistas everywhere.
Clever you, turning a dress into a shirt! I wish I had skill like that!
SO how long do these photo shoots take? I'm assuming you are dragging out a tripod and the whole she-bang...

Good for you! You look hot. ;)
Again, great post! Way to rock the tights. I love wearing them to and looking out for 'haters' ;-)
You are such a fashionista!
The haters don't have any sense in their heads if they're wearing crocs to WORK. Sigh.
Disclaimer: If anyone reading this wears Crocs to WORK, my apologies. I don't know what came over me. :oP
Congrats on your SITS day you fashionista you!
I love that you are your own papparazi! Happy SITS Day!
I'm not sure if by 'thick' women you mean a little slow or a little big, but I'm your willing follower on both counts. Fashion loser? That would be me. Belt beneath the boobs? Sheer brilliance. I'll just sit here and study at your feet awhile, okay? (SITS)
p.s. my blog post TODAY says 'I love polka dots.' :)
I love this idea. I've got people at work who still aren't speaking to me about things that happened 5 to 10 years ago. They are some persistent haters! That's OK, I just smile and wave and act sweet as syrup to them. If they want to hold onto stuff from the dark ages, that's their problem.
Good for you! I thought there was some unwritten code that teachers had to dress dowdy.
You are the cool teacher!! I will have to remember the hater greeting and wave. hehehe.
Stopping by from SITS
Why would there be haters of your outfit, I thought it looked great!
A friend from church told me about your site. I really like it! I am looking forward to reading more about you and BTW: LOVE THE TIGHTS! The whole look works for me!
