Every summer, my nieces and nephews visit from Oklahoma.
I had my 14 year old nephew over for a few days.
He spends 37 hours a day on video games.
One day last week, I told him to get dressed because we were going to the Museum of Fine Arts.
Matter of fact, I told him to get up early and fix something to eat.
Cereal. Toast. Oatmeal. Eggs.
Whatever.
After yelling, "GET DRESSED and EAT" for an hour, I finally decided to go upstairs to see what was going on.
That's when he shared with me that he WASN'T going to the museum and that he doesn't want anything that I have in the kitchen.
(cue Jill Scott saying "Word?!?)
I looked at him and politely informed him he had 5 minutes to get his stuff together.
I politely drove him to my mother's house without uttering a word the whole drive over there.
If you don't eat MY Fruit Loops or MY Frosted Flakes or refuse to go to the museum...go back to the house from whence there's none of that!
And what kid doesn't eat Fruit Loops?!?!
When I dropped him off, I laughed at myself on the way back home.
I turned into my dad that day.
No arguing. No back and forth.
Got a problem?
I'll solve it.
(Thrift store: Skirt/traincase/necklace/belt/scarf; Urban Outfitters Prince Tee; BCBG Heels; F21 bracelets)
And would you know that same nephew asked to come back to my house today??!
He's here right now.
Those same Fruit Loops will be waiting for him in the morning.
I'm thinking about going to the fabric store tomorrow.
I'll let you know how Round 2 ends.
Update...HE ATE THE FRUIT LOOPS for breakfast.
Ummm hmmm....just like I thought!

Very nice look. You inspire me to try a dressy skirt and heels with a t-shirt. Will try this soon.
Those shades are Boss! I feel you my 13 yr old brother is here with me this Summer and they are strange these teenage boys, lol!
Ha, that sounds like my dad. He didn't argue with us either, he was/is the type of person that is like I can show you better than I can tell you!!! :-)

14 year olds are evil. Same thing happened to me once when I kept my normally sweet and happy niece. Needless to say I called her grandparents and told them if they didn't pick her up she would be waiting on the front porch. By 15 she knew better than to mess with Auntie. By the way lllllooooovvvveee your blog.
I expect 14 year olds to be brats but don't tell me you don't want what's in my kitchen, as if I asked him a question! And guess what, he ate those Fruit Loops yesterday. Ummm hmmm.

**STANDING OVATION** I'm so glad you sent him packing to your mother's house where he had no "luxuries." Clearly that was a reality check for him because he wanted to come back to your house. Continue to stand firm with the young ones and mark my word - they will come back to you in the future and give you a lot of thanks and appreciation.
I love it!! He will keep coming back to visit you too. Great job standing your ground in a firm yet loving way.
Great outfit as always. I have been stalking for a year, this is only my second comment. Please post about how the fabric store run goes.
