GFS Christ Chic: Sucks

Did I tell you guys the story about a grown woman sucking her thumb in church a few weeks ago?
YESSSS!
A grown woman!
I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!
And she was a fly chick too!

Hair was swinging...
Louis Vuitton Speedy in her lap...
Banging body...
She couldn't have been more than 25.
She was the chick guys rap about...not the video vixen type but the "she's bad" type.

She sat in the row in front of me.
She turned to the side for something and that's when I saw it!
HER THUMB WAS IN HER MOUTH and she was going to TOWN!
I think I made a noise but the choir drowned me out.
I tapped my husband.
Alerted the brother in law.
Burned a hole in the back of her friends' heads because they clearly were okay with it.
I was distracted from that point on because I was trying to make it make sense in my head.

When it was time...."sucky thumb ladychick" got up during altar call for prayer...

Ummm hmmm.
For a split second I wondered what she was praying for.
But then quickly realized it's not my business.
But I wondered.

P.S...Before you get wound up...I'm not anti thumb sucking on adults. And yes church is supposed to be a place of worship. But there are distractions anywhere. An adult sucking their thumb should expect to get noticed.

Fruit Loops or Bust!

Every summer, my nieces and nephews visit from Oklahoma.
I had my 14 year old nephew over for a few days.
He spends 37 hours a day on video games.
One day last week, I told him to get dressed because we were going to the Museum of Fine Arts.
Matter of fact, I told him to get up early and fix something to eat.
Cereal. Toast. Oatmeal. Eggs.
Whatever.

After yelling, "GET DRESSED and EAT" for an hour, I finally decided to go upstairs to see what was going on.
That's when he shared with me that he WASN'T going to the museum and that he doesn't want anything that I have in the kitchen.
(cue Jill Scott saying "Word?!?)
I looked at him and politely informed him he had 5 minutes to get his stuff together.
I politely drove him to my mother's house without uttering a word the whole drive over there.
If you don't eat MY Fruit Loops or MY Frosted Flakes or refuse to go to the museum...go back to the house from whence there's none of that!
And what kid doesn't eat Fruit Loops?!?!

When I dropped him off, I laughed at myself on the way back home.
I turned into my dad that day.
No arguing. No back and forth.
Got a problem?
I'll solve it.

(Thrift store: Skirt/traincase/necklace/belt/scarf; Urban Outfitters Prince Tee; BCBG Heels; F21 bracelets)

And would you know that same nephew asked to come back to my house today??!
He's here right now.
Those same Fruit Loops will be waiting for him in the morning.
I'm thinking about going to the fabric store tomorrow.
I'll let you know how Round 2 ends.

Update...HE ATE THE FRUIT LOOPS for breakfast.
Ummm hmmm....just like I thought!

These Shorts Are Blocking My Blessing!

These shorts are the precise reason why I can never be a preacher's wife or a deacon's wife.
I've already had this discussion with my husband.

I'm not sure if I realized how short they would be.
I figured the long vest would disguise the shortness of it all.
Not successful.
But it was 102 degrees, so it's okay.
I just couldn't go to bible study in this or anything.
(Well...at my church that's not entirely true:)

(This picture right here...this is why my husband and sister were shaking their heads when I left the house! lol)

H&M Vest
Thrift clutch/leopard top
Zara Belt
Target shorts
BCBG heels

(Rocquelle and I seem to have created this bi-weekly habit of going to get cupcakes. It wasn't planned but since Kerissa snuck into town and Courtney made a drive by...it turned into an impromptu bloggy meet up)
P.S...thanks Rocquelle for the photos!

Speaking of inappropriatness, the hubby and I are celebrating our one year anniversary next month in VEGAS!
(Can you believe it's been a year already!?!)
All of you Vegas veterans, what should we add to our "to-do, must eat, must see" list!?!

Bloggers Don't Always Love What They're Wearing

Hi. I hate this dress.

I bought it a year or so ago and it was about 2 sizes too big.
But I saw potential in it.
I thought I could save it. Make it work for me.
No.

I should've just left it at the thrift store instead of pouring money into alterations.
The neck is too high (it's asymeterical)
 My "girls" felt caged.
The waist line doesn't hit me in the most awesome place
 It's too short.
All which are my fault...because my alterations lady told me.
I didn't listen.
Now...once again...I hang my head in shame!

I tried to "Jedi mind trick" the dress by adding a vest.
Which wasn't originally a vest...it was a Gap Jacket that I've had for a few years.
I decided it would serve me better as a vest.
I had the sleeves taken off.
I was right about that!
(Thrifted dress,belt/ Gap Trench Jacket Vest, BCBG heels/ Aldo necklace/Vintage handbag)

You win some and you lose some.

P.S...Say hello to my new little friend. The mother in law strikes again. This is the MIL's grandmother's handbag! It's been sitting in her attic doing absolutely nothing since I rescued it. It's perfect in all thy ways.

Roses and Thorns

(Thrifted Blouse, Lucky Brand Shoes, BCBG Heels, Target Leopard Scarf, Tribal clutch courtesy of Marionrenee.com)
The picture above is the prime reason why I need a permanant assistant who follows me around with a mirror to reflect the sunlight, fan me and adjust my clothes before I take pics so I won't have  problems like one sleeve up and one sleeve down.

I would like to add that I'm a thrifting beast. This vintage blouse makes me happy! I can't wait to find a waist pencil skirt to rock with this blouse. I didn't think I would like the high neck and huge bow but now I worship the look!

I haven't done Roses and Thorns in a minute so here goes.

Roses:
1. I am in the planning stages of 2 major projects and it's seeming to all come together (details later:)
2. I made an awesome turkey sandwich today. (bacon on any sandwich makes everything better:)
3. Watched an awesome episode of The Good Wife this week (Did you see it!?!)
4. I'm alive and well and so is everyone around me:)

Thorn:
1. Someone SPAT in my future stepdaughter's (Ms. Thang) mouth this week...IN HER MOUTH! FOR NO REASON (apparently)...and Ms. THANG did NOTHING about it!!! She's non-confrontational and it's totally out of character for her to be violent but I'm working on that:) BUT WHO DOES THAT?!? Why is any ten year old spitting on another ten year old!  IN THE MOUTH! That means that you had to time it just right to land your saliva in another person's mouth. Does she practice that at home or something!?!?

I was so mad but not for the right reason. I was mad that MS. THANG didn't knock that little girl's spleen out of place!

Click here to read the real details of this spitting incident from my dude's pov:)

One more thing: Are you signed up with Shop It To ME? You should be! Click here! It's kinda like getting a heads up on an item that you've had your eye on for a while!

Paper Bag Boy

(Pretty sure this dress was less than 3 bucks)
I have to share this story with you. Yesterday was my bday and my students were really sweet and bought me a trough of golden oreos (if you're new to my blog...you'll learn about my relationship with Golden Oreos soon enough). At any rate, I was about to leave for the day and one of my students was running to catch me before I left.

He was drenched in sweat, clutching a wrinkled paper bag. This is how the conversation went...

Kid: (out of breath) Ms. G, I...just..wanted...to...give..you...a...birthday gift.
Me: *looking at the bag suspiciously* Okay, what is it?
Kid: *handing me the crumpled bag* I know Golden Oreos are your favorite but I know that you said you wanted to lose weight...so I bought you a small box of oreos so you won't gain that much.
Me: *about to tear up* AWWWWW!! Thank you!! I am so touched!
Kid: *looking away* Okay...I'm gonna miss my bus.
Me: *clutching the cookies* Run, Charlie, Run!!!*

How sweet was that!
I know what you're thinking.
"Surely, she is going to keep THAT box of cookies as a keepsake."
Baby Crunch! Those cookies are gone! But we are having a cookie party in class with the other bajillion bags of cookies I racked up!

*not the kid's real name*

Soapbox

I'm about to go on a tangent...be warned. I am about to talk about some rappers who have like 3000 times more money than me so don't feel bad if you have no idea who or what I am talking about...just look at the pictures, nod your head and smile:)

Did you hear that rapper T.I got busted again for a drug charge only a few months after being released from jail. T.I. might be the only rapper that I openly admit to liking because he is too cute and makes angry motivational songs that make me "buck my chest and throw gang signs in the car" on my way to work. Plus, he looks awesome in a suit and has no tattooes which I admire only because that goes against the grain of the look of a typical hip-hop artist. Bla bla bla...yadi yadi ya...I like him.

(I spotted someone watching me as I was taking these pics)
But dude, come on. You just got out of jail and you have the number one movie of the week! Why do people with talent and money find ways to screw it up? Meanwhile I'm poor and can't sew, hum, scratch a record or bake a cupcake without calling the fire department and I've managed to stay out of trouble. Geesh! And his woman was busted with him. They are taking this Bonnie and Clyde way too  far.

*raises hands and drops the mic*

End scene. No judgement zone back in full effect.
(Target Belt/Shirt; BCBG shoes, Thrifted skirt)

In completely unrelated yet wholesome news, one of my students surprised me with my favorite cookies today! DOUBLE STUFF Golden Oreos! I may have mentioned in class a time or two that Golden Oreos make me happy. We've been doing "getting to know you" activities and I told my classes that Golden Oreos are a major food group according to my personal food pyramid.

In 1st period, kids kept asking me if I had seen Juan* yet and I kept looking at them like they were crazy. Juan* finally came to class and he had a bag of Oreos to give me. He even told me that he bought it with his own money! How cute is that!?!?

Needless to say Juan* earned the class the right to listen to music during class. I'm ashamed that I accept cookies instead of the typical "teacher" apple...but not ashamed enough  to give the cookies back:)

*His name isn't really Juan*
