#ThingsBloggersNeverSay

I'm about to be really "shady boots" on this post.
Guess what.
Style bloggers don't always get it right.
They don't always look perfect.
They are not always SNATCHED to CAPACITY.
These pictures are my proof.
I thought long and hard before I clicked "send" on this post.
This is me being real.
Being genuine.
And admitting that I get it wrong sometimes.

If you recall, I admit in previous posts, that I am going through a bit of a style crisis evolution these days.
That whole postpardum (I'm 6months postpardum) thing really can affect not just your body but your style.
I've been really trying to figure out what needs to be done for me to feel good about the clothes that I have.
Well this was NOT one of those days.

To be honest, I was excited about this outfit.
I was excited because I liked that it was simple but still had my type of visual interest patterns.
My husband took my pics and said ever so sweetly,
"Babe, I don't think you're going to like these pictures because of how the skirt is highlighting your stomach."
(Side Note: After YEARS of training, he has caught on! He knows what to look for when he takes my pictures!! #proudwife)

(Dress: ASOS; Jacket: Gap (so old); Shoes/cap/purse: Zara)

I looked at the pics and cringed. I instantly knew that I wasn't going to post this outfit.
Fast forward a style meltdown, a much needed pep talk with my style pimp Juanette, and a little swig of "Reiko, snap out of it," I decided that I will show when it doesn't go right.
Because that's most of us most days.
First of all, I AM wearing Spanx. #womp
Secondly this pattern is not flattering to my problem area(tummy).
Finally, the dress is too big in the wrong areas.
It's too loose which makes it look more like a skirt set then a dress.

I am never one to beat down myself because of weight and I don't want to be "that girl."
You  know.
That girl who says, "WHEN I lose some weight, I'm gonna dress so cute."
No Ma'am.
I want my style to be flattering and "me" at all times.
I missed the mark on this one.
And guess what.
I'm not Kim Kardashian #shadenoshade
And that's okay.
I will live.
And start over again.
Because that's how real G's move.
In silence.
(Makes no sense but I just wanted to end the post that way)

So there you have it.
Things that bloggers  never say....

No your not KK and thank the heavens! You are Reiko, who had the most beautiful baby who is well loved by you and your husband and your families (even by folks who only have seen her adorable picture), you still have a lil bit of baby weight and it's ok! You will figure out what works and what won't work with your body! You just pushed a human the size of a small watermelon out your body! Damm that!

I for one and sick of the glamour mommy photos 2 months after giving birth. Give me a mom/stylish blogger/or even single, unmarried blogger/female who doesn't have a stylist, puts everything together by learning through trial and error. I appreciate those people more than a celebrity who would probably go outside with torn sweats and spotted shirts if the paps weren't hanging outside of their door...

Real G's move in silence like lasagna. LOVE IT!! We do though.
Reiko, I wish you could have seen my face as I was reading this post and looking at your pictures. I was all hyped up to tell you things like, "we are our harshest critics", "you look great", "don't be so hard on yourself", etc (which are all true, btw)... Then I stopped and thought, SHE feels this way. Who am I to tell her how to feel, or that what she's feeling is invalid for her?
Thank you for showing what you feel is an off day. There are ladies out here who need to know and understand that bloggers have pictures that they don't necessarily want errbody to see... No matter how cute as a button WE may think you are. Sorry. I just couldn't help myself :)
And kudos to your hubby!! Cause mine would have looked at the pics and said, I don't know what you're talking about! They look fine to me! Then I side eye the breaks off of him!!

I logged onto Facebook and saw that you posted! I'm proud of you. (And the fact that you called me a "style pimp" has literally made my day!) *Can I get that on a tee shirt? For reals.* Good comes out of being real and your story helps people. P.S. I giggled at #ShadeNoShade And airybody knows Kanye put Kim on a post-pregnancy plan...#duh #WhatWouldKanyeDo I love you! #NoHomo

I am definitely one of those girls that says that same thing... The main reason why I took a break from blogging because I was rarely happy with the way my pictures turned out... I thought I was cute in the mirror but on the camera, not so much, I still posted anyway.

You are awesome and oh so fabulous for this post. Even though you look awesome, especially to have had a baby 6 mths ago! :) xo

Great post! I have had two babies and I know ALL TOO WELL how hard it is to "work you closet" after each one. Honey, I have felt VERY cute...took pictures...and then felt very "yikes." :) It's all part of the game. It's hard accepting a new body. It takes time and happens to the best of us. I actually, really love these pictures! www.fastintogether.com

Always keeping it real. I love the dress with its pattern. But you r right to recognize its problem area. However the styling is always on point. Do not beat yourself up. We all have our good and bad days as women and fashion bloggers.

I love the aesthetic of this post. It appeals to REAL women everywhere, especially style bloggers because we are NOT perfect! We are regular people with flaws and we have things we have to work at. Anything which suggests otherwise is not relatable and not genuine! I say don't point out your flaws...people will start to notice them. And those who go out of their way to looking for them, are only looking at themselves! I LOVE THIS LOOK! I love the black and white and the chevron print!

GFS said...

Expecting perfection is cray. I don't mind sharing my less than flattering photos on my blog because they're clothes...if it don't work, take it off and put something else on LOL. Easy fix. You are REAL, and everyone has an "off day". You still looked super cute to me! Thanks for sharing :-)

Well let's just say that with the way I looked when I left the house today I was NOT planning on letting anyone know that I am a style and hair blogger. No Sir. Thanks for keeping it real girl.

Love how genuine and honest you are in this post! You are right...we don't always get it right, and I commend you for thinking outside of the box!

xoxo

I have so much to say! And for some unknown reason, although I've been following for years, I rarely comment here (which is about to change). One: kudos for keeping it funky. Two: style, and in my case hair, bloggers are people...and people NEVER ALWAYS get it right. I've had more than a couple of hair failures. Three: Dammit I want a hubby like yours. One who can not only push the camera button but knows how to take a pic and give proper feedback! Four: I've watched your style evolve as you got engaged, married, lost weight, became preggers, etc. This will SO pass and to be real, you look better than you think. Five: Another thing bloggers DON'T say is that for me (personally) my weight did affect my style. I had gotten to an all time high and was so unfamiliar and uncomfortable with my "new" shape that I always felt out of sorts when selecting items plus the fact that everything I already owned was too small. So, instead of saying "I'll dress cute when..." I decided to lose the weight. I didn't want to be that girl either...and while I know style is for everyone at every size, when I began following some of my fave "plus" sized bloggers I realized that their style was fab, on THEM. I looked like a fool trying to emulate someone else so for me, weight loss was essential to my mental health as well as my style. I applaud you for not allowing size to ever dictate how you look or feel. I've seen you fabulous at various sizes including 35+ weeks preggers so we all know you'll "snap" out of it!

Thank you. I'm realizing that I can slightly be hard on myself but not about the weight but more so about trying to look pulled together. #strugglesohard

My dog! Thank you for the kind words ( and continued support ) . I agree that we never see ourselves the way other people see us. I'm not a naturally insecure person and I have no dreams to be a certain size. I just want my style to continue to be pulled together yet funky as I navigate a new time in my life

Thanks for your honesty. I always wonder how style bloggers always have the perfect pictures and outfits and always look great. In my head I know it isn't all real, there is a lot of staging that takes place but just like with movies, all my mind can see is what my eyes see.
Thanks for your honesty and for posting this so that us non-fashion bloggers know what goes on behind the glam.

I stumbled upon you via Instagram. First doll you are uber sexy. The dress is flattering to your hips. The problem is the boxy jacket. Perhaps a cropped jacket that would emphasize your hip to waist ratio. Regarding the under garment, you need a bodysuit spanx that would again emphasize the waist. I understand exactly how you are feeling. I have a business that practices Fashion Therapy. You are in the right direction doll, you only need a little tweaking. Also loving the cap, going to run over to Zara man so I can cop it for one of my bad hair days.

Thanks for reading! I am wearing a Spanx body suit 😊. I don't do crop jackets because I am top heavy.

You always keep it real...which is why I relate. You taught me so much about style so there is little you can do "wrong" in my eyes. While I see what you're saying, I don't see a whole lot horribly wrong with this outfit. Unless you're knocked in the head and lose your memory, I don't think you will ever "lose your style" even post pardum. You still look like Reiko to me...and that's why I will sing your praises forever! :)

I am keeping you on the payroll girl!!!! Thank you!

Yaz girl, YAZ!!!! I absolutely adore you and adore your honesty... ( and I adore your husband for being upfront about the skirt highlighting your belly, I need mine to get on the tell-me-when-I-look-stupid" train!

I haven't done an outfit post in what seems like forever for this very reason. I am not feeling what is in my closet at the moment and not reallgy diggin how my clothes are fitting either. But I am hoping for a turnaround this coming year!

girl this made me laugh and almost cry (i am a wreck lately! i might just need a good cry this weekend!)! i LOVE the pattern on this dress. and i absolutely love your style. and did i mention your personality? and your REALLY CUTE BABY? you've got it all!

that being said, all outfits can't be winners. i am forever "struggling" with my weight (meaning: I LOVE TO EAT), and i just try to "DRESS AROUND IT". lolololol. i will never be/or look like kim kardashian (thank GAWD). i just work with what i have. i think most regular folks are in the same boat. try and find things that fit and flatter and reflect some personality.

sometimes i think i have a great outfit (or one that at least fits and hopefully flatters -- hey i accidentally typed FATTERS), and i wear it over and over again. and then one day i take a long, hard look in the mirror and wonder WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!??!?!?!? lol. all we can do is keep at it. be happy with the looks that work, and move on from the ones that don't.

and, off topic (DANG WHY ARE THERE SO MANY COMMAS AND PARENTHESIS IN THIS COMMENT), but thank you for the family feud/relationship advice. i hate his mom and his sister right now, and i am just going to keep my distance -- and hope that karma or SOMETHING pays those two bitches back so that i don't have to. LOL!

Love this blog - missed you here but stayed up to date on IG. Beautiful baby, handsome hubby, lovely unique wedding - I too had a surprise wedding :0 and loved your entire aesthetic.
With all of that said - youve just had a baby - God's most beautiful gift to bestow upon a woman - nothing sexier lady! You wear it fantastically well and as usual are doing it! While I know how this makes a female feel to have to deal with parts that arent in the same place as they were pre-baby -
know that it is a transition - it took you many months to grow that precious lil mini-you - so give yourself time and grace. you are so beautiful with a killer fashion sense - continue to be fabulous - we are here for you! For the record - you are consistent with getting it right.....
