All Good Things

I'm just coming back from The Curvy Con in New York, and I'm still trying to process it all. It was the longest yet the most rewarding business trip.

So, I'm going to skip my musings for a day and just direct you to my Curvy Con/NYC recap on God's Favorite Surprises.
You'll see why it's hard to process it all.
All good things.

A Few Of My Favorite Things

What I look forward to daily...

(Sigh/screams) She is the best ever! I literally go to Awesomely Luvvie's site at least twice a day to make sure I don't miss anything. You know how you are listening to a song or watching a movie and a random thought pops in  your head? Well, she usually says everything you are thinking.
She thinks like we think about pop culture issues and does THE BEST recaps of Scandal and The Housewives of Atlanta.
I literally have cried real tears while reading some of her posts. And she uses the best gifs ever!
I want to be her friend!
This is one of my favorite posts by her.
Wait, this one is my favorite.
Okay, okay...this one here had me gasping for air.

Every morning for the past 6 months or so, I would see my husband turn his Iphone speaker up and he would listen to some talk show.
I thought it was something about sports so I would just ignore it, kiss him bye and go to work.
One day I asked him what he was listening to and he said it was a podcast about sports but not so much.
One day he let me listen to a recent podcast post and I loved it!
I became obsessed with listening to all of them.
It's about sports but not really.
Jemele Hill and Michael Smith are both staples on ESPN TV shows but they started a podcast about a year ago where they talk about current events but ALWAYS segway into a story/questions/debates about relationships or childhood experiences.
For example, Michael is an avid movie watcher and he references a line from Baby Boy it seems like every other episode and I am here for it.

Jemele is hilarious and always on point with her observations about men/women relationships.
For example, they both somehow shared stories about stealing cable when they  were younger.
And Jemele said her family stole ELECTRICITY!
How does one do that!?!?
You will LOVE it! (I actually have the ESPN app on my phone and just search for the His and Hers podcasts every Monday and Thursday. I'm sure you can go the Itunes route also.
Side Note: Look for His and Hers not His and Hers Daily because the dailies are usually just quick teasers)

Every now and then I likes me some country music and I'm all about Florida Georgia Line!

I've featured Tiffany from The Werk Place before (here).
But when she did a video to her post, it solidified my obsession with her.
(Tell her I sent ya!)
I SWEAR TO YOU I watched it like 20 times and I think I memorized the choreography! She gets it right EVERY TIME!!!

What I Want...

I mentioned in a previous post that I'm revamping my wardrobe little by little.
Here is a look at my saved list for what I'm currently coveting over at ASOS.
They are my "go to" right now for updating my wardrobe. (They also have a Curve line for sizes 14 and up)
(P.S...be sure to follow me on Facebook/Instagram...I feel a random giveaway coming on thanks to something that didn't fit from ASOS)
(And yes...I did clean out my closet...I got rid of about 6 bags of clothes)

Stocking Stuffer? Yes. (I'm in Texas...it's sandal season all year)
If your name is Sean and you have a wife named Reiko,  you should probably consider this shoe as a sweet stocking stuffer. Size 8 or 9.
Click here to buy...if your name is Sean...

Looks like I'm a glutton for punishment because I want this work out video. I know that Insanity worked for me last year before I got pregnat so I'm a believer in Shaun T and his work outs

What I'm looking forward to...

I'm going to see Jay Z in a few weeks!
Shenanigans with this one for sure!

At 8:13am, I saw that @essencemag posted that Prince was the headliner for the 2014 festival.
8:15am I sent a screen shot to my husband because he is the BIGGEST Prince fan! (Our song after we said our vows was I Would Die 4 U)
8:35am We got the tickets.
Mind you that the rest of the line up hasn't even announced yet.
Now, if they would just announce that Frankie Beverly and Maze will be there, we will both be in musical heaven!
Since the fest is in July, we are treating the 3 day weekend as a celebration of our 3rd Wedding Anniversary.

What are you into lately?

Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I freakin accidentally dyed my favorite t shirt of all time! My vintage inspired Prince T Shirt!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God is punishing me (probably for liking the shirt to begin with)!!!!!!! I am positive that this is punishment for some not so nice thoughts I've had this week!

Yesterday I got the bright idea to dye my white gap skirt because it wasn't so white anymore and it was driving me crazy. I decided it should be yellow. Simple enough, Right? So, off I go to Walmart and buy clothing dye in  yellow and a "white brightener". I was still debating if I wanted to try making the skirt white. Well, I dye the skirt successfully. You'll see that soon because I packed it for my trip to Virginia tomorrow. Per the directions, after the successful dye job, I did a cleansing rinse in my machine to get rid of residue...........SO I THOUGHT!!!!! I even washed a load of clothes after that and they were fine.

(Bye, Bye, White Prince T shirt)

This morning, I got the urge to brighten the white in the Prince t shirt along with some white shorts. When I opened the dye package, I thought it was kind of odd that the contents were orange but what do I know? I looked at it...thought hmmm...why aren't the contents white and double checked the box to make sure it says WHITE BRIGHTENER! IT DID!!

I put the garments in and just assumed that the box was smarter than I was. 30 minutes later! YELLOW PRINCE!!! PRINCE IS YELLOW! NO!!!!!! THis is my favorite tshirt! It's not really vintage but it's vintage inspired and the company I ordered it from BLOWS because it took 3 months to get the shirt and I NEVER want to give them my money again.

Now...Prince is YELLOW:( Life is NOT a parade...it's a YELLOW shirt now.

I'm still gonna rock it...only on days when I really hate myself:(

Leave your condolences...

Dear Prince,
I saw you on the awards show last week. You had on an airbrushed t shirt...with your face on it. Send me an extra one please. You don't even have to sign it.

Thank you,
Reiko from God's Favorite Shoes

P.S....God, you can stop laughing at me now.

Didn't Ya Know??

I went to the Erykah Badu concert last night. It's like 2000 degree in Houston now so avoiding any extra pieces of clothing is crucial for survival.

For some reason, I just decided my vintage Prince "Life is Just A Parade" T shirt was sufficient for the concert. Short skirt, fedora, LAMB shoes and clutch...done.
Speaking of concerts, there was a man who stood up most of the time and blocked my view. Now, if he was just feeling Erykah and the songs "like that", I wouldn't complain because it's a concert. I get it. BUT he was not snapping and swaying to the music. HE WAS RECORDING HER PERFORMANCE ON HIS DIGITAL CAMERA! So here is what I wish I could have said to the man who blocked my view last night.

Dear Not so Small Man,

I am so glad that you are getting to enjoy Erykah's performance. You deserve it. You probably work really hard and have been looking forward to this night for a while. But sir, why are you oblivious to the fact that I am behind you as well as others? Why can't you sit down periodically? I am also pretty sure that those aren't you seats. Let me see your ticket...I bet I can prove it. But I won't judge you for that. We all want to get closer to the stage, don't we? There's no harm in that.

But sir, I am not trying to assassinate you or your character in any way but you are not really that small. You are kind of a big dude. As a matter of fact, every one is sitting down in the whole arena because she is singing a ballad right now. Hell, ERYKAH is even sitting down. Furthermore, can you tell me what portion of your recordings will be quality? It looks like you are holding an Olympus digital camera...the same kind I have to take pictures for my blog. That's not even a video camera. Who are you going to show this footage to? Are you going to watch it again? Are you going to edit all the people's heads who are passing in front of you?

And while we are at it, could you please put that damn camera down and attend to your "about to pop any minute now" pregnant wife! She is uncomfortable. She is not even grooving to the music. She's just kind of just sitting there taking short breaths which look alot like the breathing  techniques I see on tv when a mother is ABOUT TO GO INTO LABOR!! Sir, please rub her back! She can't even close her legs when she is sitting. She is kinda just propped in her seat to alleviate the pain and pressure in her uterus. Sir, please stop recording. It looks like your wife wants to ask you to escort her to the ladies' room so she can throw up but she won't because you are standing up, blocking my view...while you record.

So please sir, excuse me for longing to tap you on your hip and ask you to sit so I can see. This is a small theater, there aren't any jumbo trons for me to see the performance. All I have to enjoy  this concert are my shotty eyes and my two ears. I keep hoping that the next song will be a fast song so that I can atleast jump and dance with everyone and not worry about blocking the view of the person behind me.

Thank you sir. I probably wouldn't have even bothered you if I saw that you knew the words to any of the song but YOU DON'T!

Sincerely,
The chick behind you in the Prince T Shirt crouching in between the cracks of you and your wife to see Erykah sing:)

(Erykah Badu in concert: Here is my contribution to grainy, poor pixelated concert photos to add to cyberspace...and I didn't block anyone to get these pics:)
(Are you trying to see if she is wearing some warm up pants, loose fitting t shirt, extra  long hair to her butt and gold foil paper around face?? Yes she is...That's Erykah!)

P.S...Next post I will write a letter to the two screaming, drunk ladies behind me who were cackling the whole concert and never heard them hum one song! lol!)

P.P.S...The title of this post is the title of my favorite song by Erykah Badu:

One Step Closer to Oprah!

I know I said I was going on a"blogcation" this week but I have to share that I am getting featured...AGAIN!

Moni over at Creative Liberation is featuring my little ole' blog in the first of her Monday series on her favorite blog authors! How cool is that? How cool is she? How cool am I!?!

She doesn't know it, but when I finally make it to Oprah (click here for that plan)...she will be one of the secret surprise guests that Oprah will bring out so that I can give her a thank you hug for helping me BLOW UP! (going too far again?)

If for no other reason, check out her blog for seriously old school videos and clips. The following clip I stole from her blog because it seriously put a smile on my face. You MUSTwatch it. Even if you have to watch it without sound:) I don't know what to focus on, the clothes, the dancing, the men dancing like Leroy from Fame, the MJ song they are dancing to that I've never heard in my life...it's too much!

Oh...we finally have fall weather in Texas...that means boots are back in rotation:)

First Outfit: Thrifted Burberry Shirt, Thrifted bag andRed riding boots, Jeggings (jean looking leggings from Macy's) I seriously love this plaid shirt.

Second Oufit: Prince Tee, Jeggings, Favorite Target Cardigan, Thrifted BLUE Boots

The Other Pop Icon

Yes, I'm still soaking up all things Michael Jackson and I have become mildly obsessed with playing my favorite MJ song "Butterflies".

Yet, I wanted to flip the script slightly and show you pics of me rocking my Prince T-shirt that I mentioned here.

I ordered this shirt three months ago and I just recently got it. I guess the fact that Beyonce' rocked the shirt publicly started a production frenzy. By the time, I got it...I was pretty much over it and now I wish I had a Michael Jackson T-shirt. I am sure there won't be a shortage of those though:)

At any rate, here I am with Prince all over me:) Cute shirt. Great fit...just ridiculously late. I am totally into shopping in my own closet so this ensemble was a mixture of that. Nothing spectacular but thought I would show you what the tshirt looked like. Enjoy.

Top-Chaser Tee "Prince's Life is A Parade" tshirt

Belt-Vintage (meaning I bought it years ago and have no clue where I got it)

Skinny Jeans-Urban Outfitters (earlier this year)

Silver Platforms-Calvin Klein via Ross Stores

Red Clutch-a gift for babysitting my friend's baby...I have a great bartering system going:)
Chandelier Earrings- Forever 21

I wish I cared enough to want to photoshop myself but in these days when everybody is dying every other day, I am just grateful to be alive...extra thickness and all. So here I am in my fabulous natural glory...definitely looks better with a belt. Yes, it seems that I only have one pose...the hand on the hip:)

*Now allow me to get back to singing Butterflies off key*

Toodles and Amen:)
