Thanks JC Penney!

As you know, this weekend I went to The Curvy Con to mingle with bloggers and to be a vendor for God's Favorite Surprises.
JC Penney proudly sponsored The Curvy Con all while launching their new line, JC Penney Boutique.
The Boutique focuses on the plus size figure assuring that women feel confident, sexy and trendy while still being affordable.

During the Curvy Con, JCPenney launched a powerful body positive message with some of the nation's leading voices in the plus size community. Specifically, this year's Project Runner winner Ashley Nell Tipton.

In a culture where body shaming has become the norm, this video embodies the notion that all bodies are beautiful and capable and enough.

Here is the #hereiam campaign, created to empower us all!
I was completely moved by the powerful message,  especially as a mother of a little girl who will face a world that will constantly tell her she is not enough

One of Those Days

There really isn't a rhyme or reason for this outfit.
I randomly just grabbed odds and ends out of the closet and put them on my body.
Thought that it was better than wearing pajamas to work.
Mission Accomplished.
So I thought...

Until one of my students graciously shared with me that I didn't match.
I looked at HIM for a long time.
Really? That's what you are worried about?
So, you are grading ME now?
Then, I found myself trying to school him on the concept of matching vs. blending...neutral tones, bla bla blah.
Then I caught myself.
Why am I explaining my style choice to someone who is wearing pants down to his ankles and a "I Love Nicky Minaj" t shirt?

(The scarf was more for funtion than for style today.)

Ralph Lauren Blazer (one of my faves)
Thrifted button down shirt
Zara scarf
JC Penney Cargoes (my version of jeans/casual wear)
Sam Edelman Wooties/Bedges (Booties+wedges...I like to make words up sometimes)
Louis Vuitton Sac Plat

Out of Pocket

(Borrowed shirt/Paris Hilton Heels/JCP cargoes/Thrifted clutch/Random necklace)

If you are "fast" and from the South then you know what being "out of pocket" means. My grandmother would always say that when somebody was "running" the streets instead of at home.
(She preferred that I was in a prayer closet somewhere).
I was out of pocket.

I pieced together an ensemble based on what's laying in my trunk or what was lingering in the Mr's house. Hence...the reason I snuck his shirt...again.

P.S...does this look familiar?
Shanda strikes again!
It's my mother in law's train case!

Shanda...Thank you! I love it so!
Check out some of her other work here!

The Easiest DIY on Earth

I've been wanting to pull this "Cheryl Cole" look off for a while. I am kind of obsessed with all things "flashdance", trench coats and spring...in no particular order.

I thrifted this men's sweatshirt and decided to DIY it instead of trying to buy one. I think I cut the "neck" too wide...but it's a DIY sweatshirt...who cares? Not me.
I threw on a knit hat (too dark to tell), chunky earrings and my Pour La Victoire heels:)

JCP Cargo Pants

How did I do?

(Cheryl Cole...thanks to Erin...I know who she is:)

THANK GOD FOR THE WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!

Too Sleepy To Give This Post A Title

P.S...That's really a dress I'm wearing. Decided it looked better as a jacket.

Thrifted Anne Klein double breasted dress worn as jacket.
Jessica Simpson Heels
JC Penney Cargoes
Target Tshirt

I've got some good stuff coming up for you guys next week...stay tuned!

GFS Trivia Answer

I'm impressed...most of you guessed that atleast the jacket and boots were thrifted. But many of you refused to believe that I thrifted this L.A.M.B. bag. Guess what!?!? I DID! Total Score! Can you believe that!?!?

Go ahead and say it...

I'm a thrifting beast!

Hopefully, I will go somewhere this weekend that will warrant me dressing stylish and taking pics:)

Have a great weekend!

Roomies

(Tracee Ellis Ross)
If I had a low enough IQ to sign up for a reality show like Jersey Shore...I would request to have Tracee Ellis Ross and Victoria Beckham as roommates so I could play dress up in their closets!

(Victoria Beckham)
This outfit is a hybrid of what I would look like:)

I went out to celebrate a friend's bday at a jazz club but got nervous because all I really own are "teacher" clothes. That's when I called Juanette (a blogger turned friend from Dallas) and she styled me over the phone. The only requirements I gave her was that I wanted to wear my hair in an "updo" like Tracee Ellis Ross and rock my leopard heels

Grace Jones Tee: Zara's
Jessica Simpson Heels
JCP Cargo Pants
Thrifted Tux from Juanette
Vintage Clutch
Earrings from International Festival

(I'm liking this hairstyle...it's a good protective styling option)

(Here's the fiance. Side Note...You will never see a pic of me with a glass in my hand...I might become president one day:)

Worth the Wait

H&M CoatDress, JCP Necklace, Gifted clutch, Zara's Tights, thrifted belt, Jessica Simpson heels

If you follow me on twitter then you would know that I sat in line for 45 minutes to get some chicken from Frenchy's (the best chicken in Houston). You would think I would have just left because surely it's not worth the wait. You're wrong. It was worth it. But I'm tired...and full. So, I'll just leave you with the worst pics ever. It was dark and my tripod broke on me and my food was getting cold.

Ah well...like I said, the chicken was worth it.

And I have the NERVE to walk in a Diabetes marathon on Saturday morning!

Friend me on FB here.

Tweet me here.

Assumptions

Here's a "twofer". I wore this to work a few days ago...I was just too tired to post it. Lately, I can't seem to come home to take pictures of my outfits because I'm dying to get out of them. Plus, I've been working out lately and I have to run home and get ready for Zumba classes and such.
By the way...click here...someone actually thinks I'm cool:)

(ummm...I'm noticing that my romp looks BADAMN! in these skirts)
I wore this a few weeks ago. Really, I just wanted to show you pictures of the shoes. They make me happy.
Back to Zumba, let me start by saying that I am no Justin Timberlake or Usher but I think I can dance pretty well. Well enough atleast. I even pride myself on knowing how to zydeco (don't worry if you have no idea what that is), and salsa. My point is everytime I show up for Zumba class, I always leave feeling like I have no rhythm. I think it's because I'm usually disoriented by the middle of class and am pretty close to losing consciousness...because I'm out of shape.

I'm working on that but there was this chick in class...OH MY GOD! I swear to you that she single handedly managed to distract me because she was the classic description of a soccer mom but she was DROPPING IT DOWN LOW. I mean DROPPING IT!. It was funny because she couldn't dance yet that didn't stop her. I swear it looked like she was doing the River Dance...ON ACID but she didn't care. I couldn't stop laughing!

I know I am wrong. I'll say it again...I AM WRONG! But it was hilarious. Granted, I was the one who had to step outside to get resuscitated atleast twice but this woman was going for it. When the class was over, we happened to walk out to the parking lot together. River Dance Soccer Mom Chick got into a Maserati..I walked home.

yep...the joke's on me:(
But I can still dance better than her...just not for an hour straight...to fast music...with weights in my hands.
(sticking my tongue out)

Black Out Challenge (Day 3)

(I got this slouchy top and winged cardi from JC Penney...I totally feel like Diana Ross with those winged arms...which is always the point of getting dressed, isn't it? Who doesn't want to be a diva like Diana? By the way, the prices on JCP online for the shirt/cardi were more than what I paid. Both were under 12 bucks)

(Aldo Shoes)

I'm back on track. After the mishap yesterday, I believe I am redeeming myself with this ensemble. If you are just dropping by, I am punishing myself to wearing no black for a week because that's all I ever wear. Don't even ask me about my poses! I saw a park...pulled over and started posing. One thing led to another and pretty soon I'm running through the fields taking pictures! Just laugh at the pics...I did!

By the way, this is my theme song until I decide to change it. This is the song I want played any time I enter a room!

....well...it plays in my head when I walk in the room anyway!
