Holidays and Birthdays!

(Thank you Pink Stilettos for including GFS in your feature!)

FRIDAY NIGHT
I had a busy weekend. First, I went to dinner to celebrate a family friend's bday. During that dinner, I realized how much I don't know what's going on in the streets. The girls were talking about bars and clubs and hang out spots...and I had NO idea what they were talking about! Whatsoever. I tried to keep my cool and nod my head like I really knew what they were talking then would run to the restroom to write notes in my phone of the places they mentioned! LOL!

Thrifted Tux Jacket c/o Fashionnette-Work!
Zara cigarette pants
Target Tee and Earrings
Nine West Heels
Charles David Clutch

I decided to rock the tuxedo look. Plus it was all black and lately that's all I've been wanting to wear:)

I passed by this beautiful window display at Donald J. Pliner shoe store on my way to the bday dinner at Smith & Wollensky's. Isn't it fabulous!?! Can you tell that there are shoes in the little floating bubbles?

I ran into the lady who put the display together as she was closing up the store. I so wanted to ask her to unlock the door and let me take a pic INSIDE the display!

Here is the fabulous bday Girl, Candace! HOT, RIGHT!!

This is all I want in a classic shoe. As soon as she told me they were by Pour La Victoire, I immediately decided that this is THE shoe I want for Christmas. Hands down! Period. Point blank. Well those and the Leopard heels by LAMB (look on my sidebar for those beauties)

Shoes found here! I NEED them In red! NEED them (size 8 or 8.5 Santa)

SATURDAY NIGHT

Saturday night, I went to a dear friend's Christmas party. Still wanted to rock all black but with a little funk thrown in there. Hence the statement earrings from ALDO and the blue Paris Hilton heels.

I wore a different thrifted tux jacket, Spanx Tights, Target tee and skirt and Aldo earrings.

(Here I am sleepwalking after such a busy weekend!)

....and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO Juanette from Fashion Nettework!

(I want to be you when I'm done being me!)

Roomies

(Tracee Ellis Ross)
If I had a low enough IQ to sign up for a reality show like Jersey Shore...I would request to have Tracee Ellis Ross and Victoria Beckham as roommates so I could play dress up in their closets!

(Victoria Beckham)
This outfit is a hybrid of what I would look like:)

I went out to celebrate a friend's bday at a jazz club but got nervous because all I really own are "teacher" clothes. That's when I called Juanette (a blogger turned friend from Dallas) and she styled me over the phone. The only requirements I gave her was that I wanted to wear my hair in an "updo" like Tracee Ellis Ross and rock my leopard heels

Grace Jones Tee: Zara's
Jessica Simpson Heels
JCP Cargo Pants
Thrifted Tux from Juanette
Vintage Clutch
Earrings from International Festival

(I'm liking this hairstyle...it's a good protective styling option)

(Here's the fiance. Side Note...You will never see a pic of me with a glass in my hand...I might become president one day:)

Thrifting Challenge!

And it is on! As you know, I met Juanette from Fashionnette-Work this summer through my blog crush. We met when I was in Dallas for business and we became immediate friends.
(We refer to each other as Sisters from Another Mister because we think so much alike!)

Juanette took me around the entire time I was in town and we noticed that we have the same taste in clothes. We decided to partake in a monthly thrifting challenge where we shop for each other. Well, this week I got my first package!
We gave each other a list of things to look out for but weren't limited to.

My wishlist:

1. Tuxedo jackets that I can nip and tuck to be fitted.
2. Shirtdresses or dresses that make me feel like Wulona from Good Times or Mrs. Roper from Three's Company1
3. Swing/Sherlock Holmes inspired swing coats
4. Riding Boots
5. Long vintage clutch purses
6. Belts with fabulous buckles
7. Authentic kimonos

Well...J...YOU HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK! I heart this tuxedo jacket with all my heart and all my soul! I can't wait to rock it when it gets a little cooler!

This dress is actually a little big but I love it because it gives the sleeves a slouchy/blouse-y feel!  I am going to have the bottom so it is a pencil fit. It's also extremely sheer which could be a good or a great thing...depends on where you are going and who you ask!
I got so excited about the first installment of our thrifting challenge, I styled up a few looks to show you guys!
I admit I kind of heart vintage blazers and blouses. So this taupe dress wasn't that flattering as a dress but I threw on a belt to define my shape and I'm going to have it altered into a peplum blouse.
This jacket is fantabulous! It's supposed to button down the middle but I criss-crossed it. I wouldn't wear this belt with it...I just wanted to offer a visual of what it should look like!

I can't wait to work these new items in my closet! This definitely curbs my appetite for shopping because it gives me something to look forward to every month. Juanette should get her first package in a few days. I can't wait to see what she thinks of my finds for her!

I have something to look forward to every month now!

12 Days til Christmas...

T Shirt/Riding Leggings: Zara's
Tuxedo Jacket: Thrifted

It's been a while. I was waiting for a holiday party to roll around to show what I decided to wear. It was pretty basic. My intention was to wear a sequin jacket that I thrfited but I just couldn't get that look together. I kind of felt like I was an alternate dancer on Solid Gold. All I was missing was an Olivia Newton John headband to look like that Asian lady with the long hair to her ankles on Soul Train. So, I decided to wear a Tuxedo jacket instead.

Of course, I pulled out the Leopard Heels! I probably should have layered a longer tank top underneath to avoid the "hoochie" look but it was a holiday party with some teachers...I decided a little bit of "hooch" on my off day was okay. (My dog Frankie Beverly was trying to get in the shot)

I am so in love with this t-shirt. Yes, it is none other than Grace Jones. The ORIGINAL "Lil Kim"! I'm not into Grace Jones even a little bit but you gotta love this picture of her. I have this in both black and white, I simply can't get enough of it. I've also decided that I love Zara's stores since we finally have one here in town. It's the closest to H & M we will get in Texas. I do think their sizing system is generally not for humans. I do believe that their target consumers are those with eating disorders but every now and then they will throw a thick girl a bone! So be it, if it's a Grace Jones T-shirt and some riding pants:)

**If you've never heard of Grace Jones, Olivia Newton John, Soul Train or Solid Gold...it's okay. That just means that you are younger than me...just look at the pictures and smile**
