Chicken and Waffles

I had a breakfast date with Rocquelle.
We went to the Breakfast Klub.
ROCQUELLE's serpent tongue (joke!) wanted chicken and waffles and mimosas!
I, my friends, did NOT have any.

If you follow me on twitter then you see my morning tweetpics of my view as I WOG (Jog/Walk).
My weight goes up and down.
It always has. I just choose not to blog about it because I try to dress cute at any weight.
Plus, if I start talking about it....then there's THAT pressure to not eat chicken and waffles.
And I fall off the wagon alot.
If you notice, I steer clear of labeling myself on my blog.
Not that I'm against those who choose to do it for me.
But it puts me in a box
I'm just Reiko.
The girl with a southern drawl who loves dresses and a really good shoe.
I like to just do me.
Whatever that means for that day.
And without the labels...that means I can eat chicken and waffles every now and then.

(Prince Tshirt/ Vintage Skirt gifted by Juanette/Dolce Vita sandals/Thrifted clutch)

But I didn't eat them this time.
Rocquelle did.
But I did watch her eat chicken and waffles.
And she lived to tell about it!
I had scrambled egg whites/toast and sausage.
I was okay with that.....

Only because my hubby cooked chicken and waffles the day before! LOL!
And I ate it!
And life goes on!

(Full disclosure: I lost 4 lbs last week...COMPLETELY on purpose. I'm just trying to make better choices/eat healthier. A small milestone was fitting into this skirt again. I don't plan on blogging much about weight/weightloss just because that's not my ministry but you can follow me on Twitter/Instagram and you might see a glimpse of some things I'm doing there. With meat on my bones or not...I try to live a full and happy life no matter what)

My Doctor is a Cartoon Character

I was supposed to tell you about the event I attended in this post.
It was the launch of Eden BodyWorks products.
But I'm going to direct you over to Naturally Nicky's post because she did a superb job of recapping the event!
I had a fabulous time hugging all of my favorite bloggers!

Instead, you are going to read about my latest adventure at the dr's office.
Without going into unnecessary details, I was referred to an endocrinologist through my insurance company.
(Don't worry, I'm fine.)
I go to the appointment early.
I notice there are A LOT of elderly people in the waiting room.
I'm not judging.
I'm just saying.
I'm 36 years old.
I didn't ask questions.
I just sat and waited.
And listened to an older couple argue about the husband not wearing his depends the night before.

Still, I sat.
And smiled.
All while questioning if I'm in the right place.
Still, I sat.
Finally, my name is called.

I chat with the nurse for a bit.
Then I wait.
All of a sudden, I see the door slowly widen and I hear this slight yet creepy "eeeee" noise.
Then I see a WALKER enter the room before  I see a body.
The DOCTOR is on a walker!
A WALKER!

African Jacket(worn backwards): Gifted by Key!
Jeans: Forever 21
Heels: Steve Madden
Bag: Zara

So, the doctor wheels in the room.
I had to actually help him sit on the stool.
He immediately says, "People think my brain is broken. It's just my hip."
I say, "Ummm, hi, my name is Reiko?"
I say my name with a question mark because I felt like I was being PUNKED!
He was not the least bit interested in knowing my name.

The doctor looks like a cross between Mr. Burns from The Simpsons and "Baby's" daddy from Dirty Dancing.
He starts to look at my chart and asked why I was there.
I told him that my insurance company referred him.
And he says, "I wonder why they did that."
SIR!
I have the same question!
He goes through my paperwork, then looks up at me and says "So, you're gonna be an old mother when you start having kids?"

(Naturally Nicky and Rocquelle)

I think I made some type of noise and then answered with an immediate "side eye."
I say, "I guess...kinda??"
Then he tells me that it's okay because he was an older father...but much preferred being a grandfather.
The amazing thing is that I still sat!

(Ashley of Medley, Inc. and you already know Rocquelle)

He then tells me the story of breaking his hip.
(He fell from the curb of his mother n' law's home after winning a game of Gin Rummy)
He goes on to share that he only deals with senior citizens and that I should go to another specialist.
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree!
Then offers me Thyroid meds.
Not because I have a thyroid problem.
Nope.
Just because.

I say ok.
And made another appointment with him for next month.
I'm a glutton for punishment:)
JUST KIDDING!

Oh, I forgot to mention that he REEKED of CIGARETTES!
How do you have the bedside manner of a truck driver, look like Mr. Burns from The Simpsons, smoke cigarettes, be on a walker...and still be a DOCTOR!
That Damn Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance company!

(I know the story doesn't match the pictures but you needed to know about my latest adventure!
Go to my FB page to see more pics of the event:)

Notice Anything Different?

I happen to know a lot of geniuses.
And because I know geniuses, I have a new blog look!

(Custom Illustration by Shanda Ferguson...keep reading to learn about her!)

Thank you to Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely for my new blog design!
She even customized my little leopard buttons!

Trust me, when I say, I am the least technical person you will ever know.
But SHE on the other hand...a genius!
Style Genius. Tech Genius. Friend Genius! Graphic Design Genius!
And she enjoys a good piece of cake just like me at our consultation meetings!

And my new GFS Header/Logo...thanks to the brilliant artistry of Atlanta's own Shanda Ferguson!
You know her. Remember she did my wedding portrait?
I told her I wanted to wear leopard shoes and a polka dot dress in my illustration and she went far beyond that!
She is EVERYTHING!
It just dawned on me that I've never shown you guys a picture of her!
Gorgeous!
Did I ever mention that she is a model and actress too?
And can illustrate her butt off!

Thank you Shanda and Rocquelle for everything!

Double-Booked

Last week This week One day that wasn't today, Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely asked me to be her plus one at a private blogger event at the Houston Galleria.
There was a mini tour of a few stores showcasing their Spring 2012 looks.
I was kind of double booked that day because I had to attend the PJ Morton concert.
Lee-Lonn, my client, was the opening act so it is my job to attend his shows as his wardrobe stylist.
(Remember I was the video wardrobe stylist for Lee-Lonn's video:)

For the concert, I switched the striped skirt for a black maxi skirt and some flats.

LeeLonn was awesome and PJ Morton impressed me.
I even ran into someone who reads my blog!
*waves hi again*
I was totally surprised that someone other my sister reads my blog.
Well not really...because you read my blog...obviously:)

I always JOKE that only my sister reads my blog and that's just for the pictures! HA
(I know I have fab and faithful readers:)

 Skirt: Target
Top: (ASOS...it once was a dress)
Necklaces: Sam Moon (I'm wearing 2 sets of the same necklace)
Shoes: Jessica Simpson ( I wish I would've worn different shoes but whatever)
Custom Clutch: c/o Wearable Art ( I got asked no less than 20 times that night about this bag...literally)

You've seen this outfit in some form...

Thank you Rocquelle for taking my pics!

GFS Christ Chic: That Feeling In Your Gut

I've been having this feeling in my gut for the past few weeks...maybe even months...that things will change.
In a good way.
I'm overly inspired by people who turn their passions into a paycheck.
Anytime I hear stories of people who stepped out on faith and made things happen for themselves...I get this tingle in my spine.
God has been planting seeds in me through so many conversations with friends and family.
I don't know what that means for me specifically....but it means something.
I'll keep you posted!

  Jacket: Gap (so old)
Belt: Zara
Skirt worn as dress: Gifted by Rocquelle (She got it from Imperfect Concepts)
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bag: DIY RAVEN

(Thank you Rocquelle from Consider Me Lovely...for the skirt, for the talks and for your expertise!)
So many fly people in Houston!

*For those of you who are new to this blog, Christ Chic posts are simply what I wear to church*

What Happens in Austin...Gets A Blog Post!

This weekend I went to Austin to attend the Texas Style Council Conference.
This was my second year in a row.
At this point, it's worth it just to hug all of my "blog friends in my head."

I wasn't prepared for the cold and rainy weather.
Like bronchitis kind of weather...because that's what I have now.
Oh wait that's not it...I also have an ear infection.
(And I am way too old to get ear infections, no!?!)
So consider these pictures "bb"...before bronchitis.

 Dress: H&M
Jacket: The Gap
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Clutch: Borrowed from Juanette...she is the queen of accessories!

I was able to hang out with my blog buddy Rocquelle from Consider Me Lovely.
It's been over year since I've seen her last. I gotta do better!
I just adore her spirit and her style. And she is hella smart...like for reals...she knows alot of stuff!

Every time I see her, I wanna hug her!
She has the best giggle:)

Ultimate busy woman Elissa was there!

And my all time love/SHERO... KYLA was there.
There are no words to express how I feel about Kyla.
She knows.
 That's all that matters:)

And Juanette...my partner in crime...quite literally.
I can't share the shenanigans because we have a secrecy pact and both of us would have to "off" each other.

After this picture was taken...there were giggles, wet feet, waffles, bad waiters...in no particular order

More pics/bloggers to come...right after I take a swig of cough syrup laced with heaven codeine.
The only thing that is making me feel better right now is catching up on episodes of New Girl...while trying to not cough/choke while gigging.

Shout out to L. Michelle...I need to jack some of your pics!

YOU GET A HUG and YOU GET A HUG!...*in my Oprah voice*

(Photo Courtesy of my wedding photographer Nathan Russell Photography)

I've been meaning to post this all summer but I'm lazy , I've been so busy, I was busy saving the world time just got away from me!

Thank you Shen Dove for including me in your Style Profile Series!
And thank you Rocquelle from Consider Me Lovely for using me for your debut series "Your Body Is Fabulous!"
The comments on both blogs seriously made me look around the room and say "are they talking about me?"

*blushing*
*bats eyes*

*I used wedding snapshots for this post because I haven't taken any pics this week. Regular outfit posts will resume on GFS when:

1. I can get in the car and not have to peel off my clothes even AFTER I turn the air conditioner on.
2. The devil's sister stops sitting on the Sun and pointing her evil heat rays toward Houston.
3. When I don't have to keep my car windows rolled up to keep the heat OUT of my car!

GFS Gets Out of the House!

Vintage Blouse gifted by Juanette
Target Skirt
Vintage Train Case (Found one after worshipping Juanette's)
L.A.M.B. Heels (super comfy)

I had the pleasure of attending Dismount Creative's Pre-Launch Party in Houston.
Through the power of blogging I've met phenominal people and Alicia, creator of Dismount Creative, is no exception.

(Alicia got in on my mini-photo shoot)

The concept of her company is really dope. Instead of having a regular girls night/happy hour...why not do something like make jewelry at the same time? Brilliant, right? RIGHT!

(Alicia teaching us how to hand stamp jewelry while sipping on adult beverages:)

I was so inspired by Alicia because she shared that she worked as a chemical engineer but decided to take a leap of faith and do something that she loves. Amen sister!

I got to hang out with my uber talented new blog buddy DIY Raven.

Raven rocked one of her American Apparel inspired bags that she starts selling this week!
(Remember, I wore my very own custom "Reiko Red" bag here:)

Consider Me Lovely's Rocquelle was there! Can I just say that I HEART her! She refused to believe that I'm 35! Bless her heart:)

(She's rocking the Jessica Simpson Dany heels)

And I somehow forced her to finish making my jewelry. She did it...graciously:)

Hopefully this will be the first of many meetings/social hours/gabfests!
