Princess Chic!

Somebody I know very well is about to have his 30th birthday on April 1st! He believes in all things Prince. Ironically enough, I have noticed numbers of Prince vintage T's popping up everywhere. I even bought the birthday boy a gray Purple Rain T-shirt for Christmas from Urban Outfitters and of course he worships it.

I even backdoored Urban Outfitters a month or so later and bought the exact same gray T-shirt in the men's department in a size Small because SOMEBODY would not let me wear his! (I got mine for 10 bucks too...sticking my tongue out:)

Then Beyonce' popped up with this fabulous Prince "Life is a Parade" T-shirt and I just about died! I pictured me rocking the heck out of it with jeans and red pumps! I found the shirt and of course it is on back order but I can't wait to wear it! B-day boy will get a kick out of it.

That's my Bday gift to the birthday boy...Me rocking a Prince T in his honor! That' a win, win situation!

...By the way...I tried to find a vintage Prince video on youtube or ANYWHERE on the web for this post....ummm...didn't happen...Prince does not play with his money or his image!

Can't say I blame him!

This Can Mean Only One Thing....

Spring is officially here. That means only one thing to me...DRESSES! Everybody knows I love dresses but I tend to put them in the back of the closet for the winter.

Well, it's time to break out your yellow and oranges and pastels! I went to Anthropologie a few days a go, purely out of boredom and Jesus Lord, there were just too many cute dresses.

Everywhere I turned, there were cute little dresses! They even have the Plenty by Tracy Reese dress that Michele Obama rocked on the cover of People Magazine a few weeks ago.

I tried on a few dresses...PURELY FOR FUN (dear fiance') and truth be told, my body has been betraying me during these winter months. I couldn't even fathom buying a new dress right now because I have some extra thickness in the thighs. That one visit to Anthropologie was enough to inspire me to join Weight Watchers. ( I really did:)

I couldn't imagine trying to squeeze some extra jelly in those cute dresses so for now I'll just admire from afar and enjoy my own dresses from my own closet. Everytime I hit a goal, I might splurge an accessory or something...who knows:)

So, I'll just post a few pics of the delightful pieces of heaven that I ran across but did NOT Purchase. One of the sales associates was dressed so cute that I had to whip out my cell phone camera and snap her. You can't really tell the detail on the blouse but it was BEA.U.TIFUL! She was a fellow Thick Lady and rocked every ounce well. She agreed to let me blog about her without hesitation.

Losing My Head!

I have really been into accessories as of late...especially headbands. I have a new hairstyle for Spring Break and needed something to jazz it up. I have been in the habit of finding cute headbands for a while for Small Fry but never for myself...that is until I needed an head upgrade myself.

The best places to buy cheap accessories is hands down Forever 21. Don't be scared to bump the teenagers out of the way to grab a cute pair of cheap earrings or scarves. I stumbled upon a few headbands and decided to indulge myself. Another great place is Urban Outfitters for the more quirky accessories but sometimes they lose their minds with their prices.

At any rate, as my Spring Break winds down...enjoy a few cute finds and a pic of me rocking a rose headband and a scarf (don't mind my eyes being closed...I was trying to practice putting eye shadow on).

Oh I have the one with the leaves too...love love love. While I was at it, I found some pics of wedding headbands/accessories for weddings from this site. I definitely think it's a possiblity for my bridal look:)

The very last pic with the black headband and birdcage veil is actually from Urban Outiftters. I have to keep that in mind when I'm shopping for bridal headgear!

I'll be back with something worthy of posting when I stumble upon it:)

Mortgage Crisis!

These shoes could possibly be the reason why so many people are suffering with their mortgages. Women are risking their mortgage just to slide their feet into these delightful slices of heaven. They are b.e.a.u.t.i....ah, yeah you get the picture!!
These are so pretty that I wouldn't even put them in the closet...they would sit smack dab on my dresser for me to wake-up and worship every morning...(just kidding...I know who my God is:)

I haven't been super inspired by anything lately and haven't been anywhere as of late that was worth bragging about but these Louboutin's do the trick for me.

I won't even rant and rave about them...just look at them! I would SO wear these babies to my wedding with a knee length dress but of course judging from the price, I would be homeless after I purchased them.

So instead, I will just ogle these beauties and ask this crafty chick to get her trusty glue gun and left over rose petals from somewhere and make them for me! Lol!

.....A girl can wish can't she? Just look at them!

My Very Own Designer Shoe!

A few years back, I would watch that horrible show "My Sweet 16" on MTV where snotty nosed brats would get new cars for being arrogant, self-absorbed spawns of rich people. I remember watching an episode and this snotty (notice my venom) brat went to Italy to buy a shoe for her sweet 16 party. I remember being repulsed by the notion but moreso jealous because I didn't even get a Sweet 16 party. I got a chaufferred trip (by my mom) to Foley's and was allowed to buy my first and only pair of Guess Jeans...complete with the triangle symbol on the pocket.

Anywho, that's another story for another post. The point is the snotty nosed brat was able to go to a designer Italian shoe studio and have a shoe especially made just for her foot. I remember sitting with my mouth wide open because I couldn't believe the parents even wasted their energy to do something so ridiculous.

At any rate, I remember sulking for a hot second knowing that I would never have the experience. Instead, I take pride stuffing my feet into a size 8 shoe from Nordstrom's or Marshall's knowing that this is the closest to a couture designed shoe I will get.

Back to the point...I am a teacher and most days I look at the students as the greatest form of birth control a girl could have. But there are moments where I connect with my students and share a little about myself personally. One day, I remember telling my kids about this blog (I was vague in its description) and my love of shoes. Long story short, one of my students who also is a great artist ( I know this because he draws carictatures of me on the work he turns in), surprised me with a sketch for my blog. I didn't even know he was doing it.

It is so perfect for my blog and I heart it to death. The more I looked at it, I realized that this was indeed my very own designer shoe. One made especially for me! How cool is that.

So I introduce to you the official logo for this blog. I hope you get the connection. It should be pretty obvious. There is a shoe on a cloud with a halo and angel wings on the back. God's Favorite Shoes! How fitting!

Enjoy. Who knows. This could be the start of something! Think big, right?

P.S....rest assured, this kid will be passing my class:)

**I hate to do this but seeing that I don't know you (some of you:), I must state officially that "Stealing is a sin" so don't steal my picture or anything from this blog for that matter. It's simply not nice...you must credit me or ask my permission...just like my students:)

Taking my own Oath of Office

In these dismal economic times, shopping for pleasure has landed in the frivulous department when prioritizing life.

With that said, I must take the pledge President Obama extended to us all and become more personally responsible...he said something like that or close to it:)

At any rate, I am taking that pledge personally and admit that I need to get some things straight financially. So, to fulfill my desire to look at beautiful clothes, I decided to look no further than my own closet.

If you get the urge to buy something that you have no business buying, follow my lead and shop in your own closet. You will be amazed what fabulous things you may have pushed to the dark corners of your closet. This is especially true with shoes, because if you are like me...you keep your shoes in a hermetically sealed room with temperatures not exceeding 76 degrees.

Okay, that's pushing it...but I do go to Big Lots and buy clear shoe containers for most of my shoes. The problem is I keep my shoes on the top shelf of my closet to make room for nonsense on the floor. Above eye-level shelving makes it easy to forget what great shoes you may have found on sale.

I am dragging this out, aren't I? The point is I just rediscovered some fabulous shoes in my closet and decided to share. Most come from Marshall's because I am a believer in their shoe department. I am a living witness that they have the same shoes that are in department stores for alot less.

So enjoy my shoe eye candy. This is not by far even a fraction of my shoe collection but these are my favorites at this very moment. Notice, the same shoe in different colors. I am trying to kick that habit:) Consider it kicked!

I also included pics of a few finds I stumbled upon at the H&M in Philly...gosh I love H & M! Come to Texas please!

If you feel so inclined...go shopping in your own closet! What great treasures are lurking under your bed or in a downstairs closet?!?...better yet, go shopping in your friend's closet! See what they have, that they are willing to part with:)

P.S....Don't hate on the blue suede fringe shoes by Calvin Klein...I can't count the number of ways I would rock those babies! My yellow dress, or maybe a blazer and sknny jeans or a purple skirt and wife beater and blazer! OH the possiblities!

I WITNESSED HISTORY IN THIS!!

I just got back from DC to witness President Barack Obama be sworn in. I am pretty sure everyone is on overload with Obama coverage so I won't take that route. To be quite honest, I got sick while in Philly/DC because of the single digit weather over the weekend. It would be my luck to visit Philly on literally one of their coldest days of the year. It was too much for my Texas immune system to take.

So, because I am uber tired from traveling and running on fumes from all the inaugural hub-bub...I will just say it was an experience that will be etched in my memory forever. I am so proud to be an American and an African American on top of that.

I will say this little tidbit: I believe that Barack Obama has raised the bar for Black men. This moment in time should inspire every black man to be on their game and stop all the trivial bs that stunts our family units, relationships and communities. We now have a visual of what a real Black man is capable of. It's time out for trying to buy rims , having multiple women to prove your manhood, or/and being an absentee father. Unless you are driving THE BEAST like Barack, I don't want to hear another word about DUBS or 22's or whatever those rims are.

I digress...but you get my point. The purpose of this post is just to admit that I failed miserably at being fly while in DC. Truth be told, that cold air was kicking my butt. By the time, I got off the plane, I realized that being cute and warm are not synonmous. So I regretfully post a pic of my winter look while braving the bitter cold for Barack. I am ashamed to be quite honest! LOL. I had 2 pairs of gloves, 2 sweaters, a thermal shirt, tights, jeans, 2 scarves and a turtleneck from hell.

Oh and those cute boots from mom in the previous post...yeah, I had 2 pairs of socks and my toes still were burning.....but it was ALL WORTH IT!!!

...I'm going to need to sleep now. That's ashame. Barack and Michelle went to ten inaugural balls and still managed to get up and go to church the next day...me...not so much.

God knows my heart though! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Hilarious...

Even more hilarious...okay...a little corny but I am corny:)

Crisis Averted

I am one week from making the trip to the East Coast to witness Obama be sworn into office. I am a Texan where cold weather is theoretically a thing of the past. With that said, it's needless to say that I don't own boots. I have cute boots but not real boots.

I have been on the hunt for boots for my Philly/Washington D.C trip so I can be warm and cute at the same time. You can see for yourself on earlier posts that I have been looking for coats & boots for a minute. The truth is I have no money to try spulrging on coats and boots for just a single weekend because trust me I won't need them in Texas. If you want to know why I am broke, read this post.

So, long story short, I am fiddling around in my closet and came across some boots my Mommy gave me a few years ago. I never, ever wore them. Quite honestly, I saw they were a size 9 and wondered to myself why mom didn't know my shoe size was an 8-8 1/2 but didn't question her. If I had complained, then I wouldn't have gotten the checker/chess set the next Christmas or the Yoga mat this Christmas. (I know not to bite the hand that feeds me:)

At any rate, so all week I have been stalking after Christmas online sales trying to find some cute, cheap riding boots and a coat for the trip but not wanting to dish out the money. Well, I pulled out the boots and decided to try them on and guess what... I LOVE THEM!!! They fit perfectly over my thick calves and were big enough to throw some big socks and stuff my skinny jeans inside them!! WHAT WAS I THINKING? WHERE HAVE I BEEN? They are perfect, perfect, perfect. They are black and come high enough and are flat which were the requirement.

Mother does know best! She knew that the size 9 would fit because of socks and here I am not rocking the boots all this tme!! Thank you Mother! I will be rocking these babies tough in Philly:)

...as far as the coat, I have one from a few years ago that I got from H & M but in my head, I thought it wasn't thick enough. So, I thought instead of buying one, I would borrow from my homie who is born and bred in BWOOKLYN! (yes BWOOKLYN, not BROOKLYN). Well she trots over my house with what looks like jackets to me but swears that they ward off zero below weather! At any rate, she had a cute little coat that is just perfect for me. Thus, no money needs to be spent on this trip!

All there is for me to do is be in the place next week. I can't wait! You won't hear from me until after the inauguration but I will try my best to get pics of Philly and DC flavor if I see it:)

I've Been Tagged

Who knew that someone cares about me in the blog world. My homie over at Confessions a Former Hot Girl thought I was worthy to be tagged. She actually wants to know more about me! Can you believe that?!? Little Old Me:)

So, I will just get to the point. The purpose of being "tagged" is to get know random bits about a person so here goes...

1. I snore. There I said it. I had my tonsils taking out thinking it would eliminate the problem but sadly it did not. It is partly the reason why I never did/do sleepovers...I am too embarrassed:(

*cue the violins*

2. I don't do small talk. You can ask anybody...I do not believe in chit chat. If I don't have anything specific or meaningful to say...I am quiet as a mouse. Even in a grocery store, if someone asks me a random question, I will answer it and turn right background. Actually small talk annoys me to no end...I hate to hear meaningless banter and I don't like entertaining people who are full of it. Some people say I am rude, I just like to get to the point.

3. I am truly ready to get 2008 over with! I am so over it. I didn't have the greatest year and I can't wait to pass it on by.

4. Up until a few years ago, I literally had a fear of airports...not airplanes....not flying...AIRPORTS. I would refuse to go at all cost and rarely drove/picked up anyone from the airport if it required me walking into the actual building. I think I may have been lost in the airport when I was little, so possibly I was traumatized.

5. My major in college was Journalism and minored in Psychology but I was only a few courses shy of having a minor in Western Religion. I took alot of courses on religions because I am genuinely interested in the origins of parables and stories of the bible. I even took a course named Black Churches in American where the origins of Black churches was investigated.

6. I have been known to walk out of a church if the sermon is boring or if I don't get a good vibe. I have actually walked out of a church when a random guest speaker picked me out of the congregation and told me that God said I was going to be in politics. Everybody around me knows I don't want to work man! He also said that God told him that I wanted to be on the cover of a magazine one day. I refused to bow my head to that nonsense for I felt I was being mocked. While everyone's head was still down in prayer, I grabbed the then BF and left. We drove to Carrabas to have lunch and a drink! I will walk out of a church if I don't feel it is genuine or the service is too long. I am not proud of it...I'm just saying! LOL
*Bonus*- I don't eat rice. I hate it. And I secretly want to cuss people out who want to make me try it "just this once". I HATE RICE!! There I said it. It has no taste, it serves no purpose and there is no room for rice in my life! LOL

I will pass the tag onto Raven. She is quite hilarious and an intriguing person to learn about:)

(Hey BF, I know too much about you so don't go tripping:)

My $30,000 Dress...You Read that Right

Yep, I just bought a $30,000 dress. It comes with the flyest cap! It's one size fits all and looks good on any skin type, gender or body shape. I have been working on getting in this dress and hat for a few years now and I finally got it!

It's my Graduation Cap and Gown! I finally completed my last assignment to be the proud owner of my very own "I Am in More Debt" Card also known as a Master's Degree in Education Administration.
So what am I going to do now, you ask? Ummmm....wait for the bill to pay back my student loan to come in the mail? That's pretty much as far as I can see.

Nonetheless, I set a goal and finally completed it. Unfortunately, I own the dress "metaphorically" because my school is not holding a December ceremony. Therefore there was no need to actually acquire the cap and gown. But I am wearing an invisible one right now...can you see it? I look good, don't!?!!

Well, this is my sole form of celebrating. This is it. So the next time you pop another drink in your mouth...do it in honor of me...I deserve it!

......now where is that Kanye West's first cd "College Dropout", I feel the need to cry myself to sleep knowing that idiots like Lil Wayne and Rihanna make more than me and they can't even balance a school budget...I can...I have a degree that says so!

(P.S...I don't really know if my "dress" was really $30,000...I'm too scared to add it all up:(

Congratulations to RAVEN and IVY LEAGUE...they just bought the same dress this weekend too!

The Ultimate Dress

Every girl dreams of her wedding dress...atleast every normal girl. Not me, I never was that kid. I just wanted to look fly going to brunches in my 30's.

And then it happened...September 12, I got engaged. You would think that I would have went into overload but I didn't. The chick over at Just Keep Kicking might tell you something different but I really didn't kick into Bridezilla mode.

I honestly have so much on my plate this fall between trying to graduate in December with a Master's in Education and putting Barack into office, I only did bits at a time. I am pretty precise when I know I want something.

Well, I finally decided to browse at some dresses. I wasn't really that excited to venture into bridal shops because I knew I would be overcome by all the blinding pasty white gowns that make you look like cup cakes. With this in mind, I just went on a limb and went by myself to look at dresses. I packed my trusty camera, some heels and my trusty girdle and off I went. No friends. No family. No peanut gallery.

I would watch all these wedding shows like Bridezilla, Platinum Weddings and Whose Wedding Is It Anyway. The brides would always say that you KNOW when you MEET your dress. I thought that was such a corny statment. I figured it wasn't as dramatic as they made it out to be.......................................

Until I FOUND MY DRESS. I promise you, I was not expecting it. I totally was cynical about the whole experience thinking I would breeze in and out completely disgusted by the cookie cutter look. That was until I found my dress. It just felt right.

I wish I could post pics, but I won't because a certain person lurks on this page...actually has seen the dress already. Yes, I broke tradition and let him see the dress! TSK TSK!

SAVE IT. I am so not a traditional person so it wasn't that big of a deal. Plus I looked like a wolf in the pic...no make up, etc...so he won't remember which one it is. But the point was that he is the one I want to impress so I feel he should have a say so. Quite honestly, he was indifferent to my choice but I also know that he is the type of person that needs to see something live and in color!

It's not the same. On that day...with the make-up, hair and nerves in place...I will be a new vision...I am sure of it. I BETTER BE!!

At any rate. I had the moment. I literally said aloud "THIS IS THE DRESS, THIS IS THE DRESS!"

I love it. I learned early on that I am a fan of rouching, mermaid style and a sweetheart neckline and all of those elements came together in this dress! I wish I could post it but I won't until after the wedding.

At any rate, there were several dresses that were atrocious and quite hilarious and I thought those pics would be way more interesting.

Judge me not...I had no make up and was totally bumming that day. None of these accentuated the flyness that is moi' so they didn't make the cut but they were worth blogging about in that I knew what to get.

Excuse the excess back and belly jelly...that will be taken care of by the time the wedding rolls around. I plan on being heavily addicted to crack by the wedding date to lose weight...it's the American way!

I kid. I kid...(have a sense of humor please!) In all honesty, I want to look like myself...just a better, more toned me!
NONE OF THESE WILL BE THE DRESS, ! NONE OF THEM! So feel FREE to giggle! I did!
(now let Operation Crackhead begin...Pray for me!)
By the way, David's Bridal sucks:(
